Shake!” It reaches out a tentacle, but jerks back when it tries to touch her fingers. “Ow! Fire!” “Aw, I’m sorry, darling,” she says. “You shouldn’t touch. I’ll scorch you by accident.” Beebo makes an unhappy noise, then very quickly flicks out a tentacle and pokes Karlach’s worn, leather boot. When the touch doesn’t sizzle the mimic’s flesh, Beebo taps the boot sole. Nothing happens. Slowly, the tentacle strokes over the dusty bottom of Karlach’s boot and when nobody gets burned, the little monster murmurs, “Good. Good Karli. Karli friend. Beebo like Karli.”

...it's literally because the stories you mentioned are for teenagers, who generally want to read about other teenagers. YA vampire books are going to have YA protagonists, who before 2015 were predominantly 16-19yo girls. If you want adult protagonists, look at stories written for adults.

I just did a video about this. Altho not every story requires sex, when a writer chooses to put sex in their work the scenes in question have narrative weight and importance. They serve a vital function. They ARE "real plot." Showing sex on page/screen gives information that suggestion does not.

Yeah, I've learned I'm a bigger monsterfvkker than even I expected. I'm playing BG3 and I went to the Underdark and met a myconid (mushroom person) and the narration is like "the grotesque creature's revolting flesh" and I literally yelled at my laptop "you shut the fvkk up, she's beautiful!"

Nosferatu 2024 is quickly becoming another litmus test of mine for whether someone is a shitty human being or not. I don't believe the media people consume is indicative of their morals but I do believe harassing people and victim-blaming abuse survivors over a fvkking movie IS.

It didn't *happen* this week but it's still making me smile: at the end of last year I got 2 lovely reviews on my wlw Wizard of Oz one-shot fanfic that I wrote in 1 go for a challenge back in September. This fic is doing unexpectedly well for a one-shot in such an old fandom! 🥰💚🥰
