A significant lake effect snow event is expected in the region, starting tomorrow. Here are the estimated forecast totals through 7PM Friday. Additional snowfall is likely through the remainder of the weekend.

During a walk over at the #Erie bayfront earlier, I saw some ice beginning to form along the bayfront. The temperature back at home at 7pm is currently 12 degrees.

I’m intrigued with the GFS solution, showing a setup that is similar to the November 1950 event. For Erie and Cleveland locales, we would probably want to see a slight north trend and a colder airmass should this system materialize.

It was cloudy in Erie today, can confirm.

Although there is potential for accumulating snow, they have backed off from a more significant event due to a quick rebound of -NAO blocking, which will allow the system to recover progress more quickly. The Alaskan ridging (-EPO) will allow cold air to move south with this upper-level low.

Lake effect snow potential next week! Models are showing a signal for our first round of accumulating snow in the region.
