Trouble is I haven’t seen the first Go Hot Food film.
A box of delicious looking hot chips from Chook & Co in Cabarita (22 Cabarita Rd, Ph (02) 9743 2325) that has the words “Hot Food 2 Go” emblazoned across it that I’m deliberately misreading for the joke in the post.

Look how they massacred my joke.

The joke may as well be “why couldn’t the pig sing? Because its voice was a little hoarse” haha get it? Because when your voice is a little hoarse, you can’t sing! Imagine, having a sore throat and trying to sing! Hahahahahaha. I’ll be doing twice-daily standup on the Star Princess all week folks.

I’m not sure I want to contribute to that second thing, but I’m not the type of person who disobeys signs left randomly on my kitchen floor by sentient toys.

But of course I teased this earlier so here are the beers I’ve enjoyed so far this evening. #christmasinHKollis
A can of Deadman brewing Dirty Pale Ale. Next to it is a glass half full of the beer, not looking overly cloudy but with a healthy if whispy head of foam. This beer was quite a nice starter; bit of acetyldehyde I detected but not enough to ruin a pleasant drinking pale ale. A can of Black Kite brewing/Patchun sauce Chilli Bean Amber Wheat, next to a glass of it that’s golden amber coloured with a heavy and voluminous beige head. This beer was mostly just weird; it kind of tastes like chilli without any of the heat, and had more of an umami flavour to go with it as well. Ostensibly it’s making a beer inspired by Patchun’s sichuan plum chilli sauce but I don’t really get much plum either. Ultimately fairly drinkable but I would prefer more of the heat from any kind of chilli beer. This is also the beer pictured in my earlier photo watching the fireworks. A can of Yardley Brothers ‘This is not a Pho’ sour ale, next to a glass with half the beer (burnished amber colour) and half the big off-white head. This was alright but really just tasted like the cucumber and lime they’d brewed it with. Lacking the spices they apparently put in there too but also a bit too thin on the malt so it lacked beery character as well. It just tasted like a weirdly contrived seltzer. A bottle of Yardley Brothers x Cloudwater brewing “Who the F%#k is Brett?” Brett-fermented hazy IPA next to a glass, filled with a third of the beer and two thirds white dense head. This is a lovely drop, reaffirming why Yardley Brothers are my big discovery of this trip. Funky brett notes mix with tangy NZ hops to make a beer that packs a flavour punch, feels both earthy and fruity and refreshing, and leaves with a nice almost saisony funk note that’s spicy and grassy.

My son patting one of his favourite cats in the cafe, a grey and white shorthair wearing a lavender bib. They are both sitting luxuriously on green cushions on the floor. My daughter patting her favourite cat in the place, a tabby who reminded her of Ned, our neighbour’s very friendly cat back home who visits our place often for pats and possibly food although he never gets given the latter. This particular tabby is, however, wearing a pink tutu which our neighbours back home likely wouldn’t bother with. Feeding time at the zoo. One of the cat cafe staff is providing food into a series of ten bowls in the middle of the floor and a bunch of cats are crowding her to eat. Selfie I took with the same shorthair cat wearing the lavender bow that my son is patting in the first picture.

A large grey cat (I think it’s a Maine Coon cat?) staring menacingly at me as he prowls past. Which would be more menacing as a look if the cafe staff hadn’t dressed him in a bloody raccoon suit.

Some of the cats had these black and red bibs on that meant they were short-tempered and we had to be careful around them (basically: danger!) but this little fella was my favourite in the place. He seemed to take to me and our son more than he did Bec or our daughter. #christmasinHKollis

As soon as we’d had the rules explained, removed our shoes and bagged our belongings (to protect them from stray urine; feline or otherwise I guess) this magnificent creature jumped on our table and stayed for a good ten minutes. #christmasinHKollis

Why we were going to Tsuen Wan I’ll get to, but we had some time to kill when we arrived so we went to the New Town mall, which is basically like a suburban shopping centre back home (because it’s a shopping centre, and is in the suburbs). #christmasinHKollis

While we were drawing downstairs in the hotel, Bec and the eight-year-old went for a walk to get some fruit at a local market, and to get some fresh smog in their lungs.
