Like to give a taste of how unlikable these elves are Eragon is effectively crippled at the end of book 1 and spends an entire book training in elf town and daily the elf that's supposed to be training him in swordsmanship disregards his injury and just beats the shit out of him while gloating

They were pretty average fantasy books but I genuinely have no seen a more unlikeable elven race depiction somehow contrasted by the protag pining for the one elf who's actually trying to solve problems for the plot and gushing about the others for what feels like an entire book

Seriously that series went off the rails and straight into oncoming traffic after the first book but had so many small cool moments that somehow kept you around

I read the books and while there are s a lot of really cool stuff Eragon himself is probably the most miserable protag I've seen in a book in a while

I think this is because I zero attachment to elves as a fantasy race but the amount of whining Eragon does because the Elf with way more pressing shit going on won't fuck him made me hate him forever

Oh god I did not expect to see talk of Eragon today

Looking back I feel like I read anything that had a cool dragon on the front and was forced to suffer through several arcs of pining for an elf who was not interested at all before anything happened in those books

I wanted to try the newest one to get a feel for series and am having a blast
