Switching out one of my frozen quiches for a fresh one. The downside of cooking prepared freezer meals: I’ve moved on from my feta obsession to my ricotta obsession but still have two freezer quiches with feta. #goodproblemstohave #mealprep #freezermeals #budgetmeals

Not about to let takeout leftovers go to waste. 🍚

Justin cut down the dead grapevines this week 🪵 I spent yesterday outside with the girls cutting the scraps smaller (I’m campaigning to create a dead hedge!), reserving some select sticks for a future project (which the girls stripped of their bark for me), and made the bases for flower crowns

Lamb bone from our Pesach Seder going into the freezer to create stock at a later date. I am waiting til it’s thawed to smash it—I’ve only smashed chicken bones before, so it’ll be a new experience. I do have 4 different mallets now, and may take it to the lanai as to not risk damaging the counter 😅

Freezing food scraps in our effort to be more #sustainable & resourceful. Making stock with the smashed chicken bones (they were cleaned & dried first) and veggies. Might use the fruit scraps for a puree, to zest, or to steep in tea or cleaning solution. Eggs shells for potting soil 🍗🥕🍋🥚 #zerowaste

I discovered terracycle.com and their free recycling programs. They partner with over 100 brands and provide free shipping labels to send empty packaging back. Food, electronics, clothing, cigarettes, hygiene, and even fast food sauce packets. ♻️ I already signed up for Aussie and Tom’s of Maine’s 📦

Our first grove.co order, changing over some of our household cleaning and personal care items to more sustainable options. We have monthly subscriptions for the laundry pods, Dr. Bronner’s soaps, kids’ probiotics, toothpaste, and wipes, and quarterly for the toothbrushes. 🧼🧺🫧🦷 #sustainableliving

Decided against buying a flimsy MDF POS for $50+ and turned our vacuum box into a shoe bench for the lanai instead. Rolls of contact paper and duck tape were ~$5 each 😅 #repurposed #recycled

One of the black-owned businesses dropped from Target is likeucards.com. We’re always looking for Easter basket stuffers, so I got the parents & kids deck for a pre- & post-dinner activity with the kiddos. (And I got the original deck for me and Justin!)

Their ThriftBooks.com haul. We want to mostly focus on borrowing from libraries, but I wanted them to have some books of their own in their new home 📚 They’re on a Seuss kick since visiting the museum & they’ve always loved biographical books about smart + strong figures 📖 #VashtiHarrison

We made our first purchase on thriftbooks.com today. We debated. I want to rely more on libraries but want to have some permanent books for the kiddos since we left most of theirs in storage when we flew to our new home. Especially in the case of another pandemic. #AmazonAlternative

My goal is for these kids to grow up self-reliant enough that they don’t have to panic about looming government shutdowns, soaring grocery prices, and exorbitant tariffs. For them to be confident in their capabilities taking care of themselves and each other. But today, it’s homemade Italian relish.

I found 5 co-ops within an hour of our house using litterless.com. I was initially just looking for bulk/ refillery options since Whole Foods is a 🙅‍♀️❌👎🚫 (owned by Amazon), but most of these have that and so much more. Psyched to check them out next week!

I found this great website, litterless.com, that connects you with zero-waste grocery shops and compost and recycling facilities near you (nationwide). 🥕♻️🌎

I’m trying to locally source these things (and I need to stay within ~5 miles atm due to van needing work). It’s wild starting from scratch, not knowing the area, or where to start, and wanting to start living sustainably. Just tons of online searches to find sellers. But I know it’s worth it 🌎

My husband got me a set power tools for Xmas, but there’s a couple I still need to add. I want a cast-iron set for indoor/outdoor cooking. I want a quality bow, canning supplied and 5-gallon buckets, gamma lids, and bucket liners and Mylar bags with a heat press to seal them for bulk storage …

On 1 hand, we’re trying to divest in capitalism. On the other, we’re trying to buy living essentials we either didn’t have to begin with OR had to leave behind in storage when flying out to the East Coast when we relocated and aren’t going to retrieve for at least months if not longer.

On this, the last day of #BlackHistoryMonth, a reminder that the last segregated prom, in Wilcox County, Georgia, just became integrated in 2013. Racism, segregation, discrimination—these are all topics of modern history, not ancient history. #BHM
