Reflections from a tenure-track #acamama living with #chronicillness & #disability: it’s hard out here. I fell short on publications in 2024 in my annual review.

Not because I didn’t do the research.
Not because I didn’t care.
But because I was surviving. 🧵

As junior faculty, I often find myself reflecting on whether my presence, teaching, & mentoring have made an impact. Receiving the Excellence in Graduate Education Faculty Award was a meaningful affirmation that the work I do matters. Grateful to my students who made this recognition possible. 💙🧡

I truly think people don’t realize how many universities and colleges — especially public ones — may shut down if restrictions on and withholding of federal funding persists for even one presidency

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue:

1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance
2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion
3. Don't live post resistance meetings
This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

What is happening right now is not just a targeting of minority groups and our integration into society. It is the targeting of minority groups as part of remaking the United States government and the theory of democracy that has organized it for over two centuries.

I’ve been quiet for a while, dealing with my own health struggles, but it’s made me think deeply about what healthy aging really looks like in today’s world. With a political climate that continues to overlook our older generations what are we really doing to ensure that folks age with dignity? 🧵

If you think the NIH cuts are really about “costs” & not part of a broad attack on Higher Ed—

suppression of protests, EOs on DEI, “rooting out Marxism;” P2025 student loan plans; long push to support applied majors rather than liberal arts (i.e., learning to think), etc.—

you’ve lost the plot.
