Dogs and faith and life and such, with a side of SparkleBrain. I raise service dog puppies for veterans, and I married a nerdy train guy who plays big band music. You know how it is. I ain't fancy.

I just followed a metric buttload of people here…if you’re on that list, it’s probably because I followed you on Twitter, and am juuuust now getting around to finding people, slowly. Perhaps this profile pic is how you know me….
Well, here we are. Crew heads out to live with his veteran today, and I couldn’t be more proud. We’ll miss him, but he’s going to change a life. Go be all you can be, good dog! We love you!

This. Majestic. Beast. Crew is headed out this week to officially become a service dog, so I had to get some shots of him at Garden of the Gods, in front of Pikes Peak.

Somebody who shall remain nameless told me it’s National Black Dog Day.

“PSST! DON’T TELL ANYONE BUT IT WAS ME JOSEPH FRANCIS!”

Folks from my service dog puppy group (and the pups, of course!) attended an event today benefiting Home Front Military Network, an org helping service members, veterans & their families, including $ assistance to prevent homelessness. Their call volume has > QUADRUPLED these last 5 years.

Took Crew up to the top of America’s Mountain (Pikes Peak) via the Cog Railroad on Saturday! Couldn’t see anything from the summit — socked in with clouds — but the views on the way up & down were lovely. And he was a total pro the whole time.

Is it lame and weird to attend a birthday party for a dog? Guilty (and lame, and weird) as charged. Also, I’ll take all the good clean offline fun and simple in-person joys I can right now. Happy 2 to Crew and happy 1 to Elsie, who will be excellent service dogs one day!

“I have been experiencing some gastrointestinal difficulties this week. Was feeling good enough for an outing to Lowe’s today. The human thought this pic would be hilarious. I must comply, of course, but refuse to look like I approve of the joke.” —Crew, the Volcanic Labrador

ATTENTION, person who came up with the idea of putting the “top or bottom” tags inside the fitted bedsheets in those sets from Target: may your people be blessed and prosperous for a thousand generations

I am so in love with this dog. He’s going to be SO HARD to give up!

Puppy meeting is, without question, the best way to end a day. Crew thought the Halloween decor at Lowe’s was WAY less scary than that time I ran out of treats. This dog’s going places.

There’s a kind of gross sweatiness of late summer that can only be exceeded by a different kind of gross sweatiness that happens after you shower to get rid of the first kind.

I’m focusing right now on things I love, and things I can do to love others. Crew and I spent the day representing our puppy group at a local VFW event, and met some nice veterans who inquired about applying to get their own service dogs.

Secrets of the universe unlocked: I have now experienced the magic of grocery preorder and pickup and IS THAT A SHAFT OF LIGHT COMING DOWN FROM HEAVEN AND A CHOIR OF ANGELS SINGING?

(Now do Costco, I beg you!)

There’s a lot of bad news today, like every day. I urge you: take a breather, let your soul rest, do something you love. I’ll be at a puppy training workshop with my service dog group, for whom I made all these cookies (not for the dogs…they get treats all day)! May your Sunday refresh you, friends.

Spent the 4th at my puppy group leader’s house in a rural area to avoid my explodey neighborhood. Two humans, 8 dogs, 1 tiny pup. Seven of those posed nicely for this post-fetch session pic. Livestock guarding dog was too busy barking at things to join us, but this is otherwise an impressive feat!

Can you guess where our service dog puppy group meeting was held tonight? Little 10-week-old Basil practiced engaging with her handler, and did a great job. Also did a great job being adorable.

Hey @jaymallow.bsky.social …Miss Emma sends her regards!

Guess who’s back for a visit? Emma the service dog, whose veteran is on a not-dog-friendly work trip and asked me if I could host her for the week! So good to see the Pointy Princess!!

How it started, and how it’s going: Joey is the handsomest guy. Can’t believe little Joseph Francis has been my faithful shadow for two whole years.

“The Forest Service is now entering peak fire season in a compromised position, placing an even greater fire danger on communities across Colorado,” lawmakers wrote to the USDA.

Uncertainty over Trump admin priorities undercuts preparedness, experts say.
