New @athlonsports.bsky.social: It’s NFL Draft week, and I talked to Ashton Jeanty, who’s poised to become the highest-drafted running back in years on Thursday night.
“My path is different, going to a Group of 5 school,” he said. “It just gave me that motivation to work harder and to really earn.”
Ashton Jeanty Discusses Unique Path to the Pros
The former Boise State standout spoke about his NFL journey and the value running backs ahead of Thursday's draft.

And one more for your Friday football reading: The first ever on-campus CFP game kicks off tonight in snowy South Bend. Notre Dame is favored, and the Irish have dominated Indiana in the all-time series, but these Hoosiers can hang.

Notre Dame meets Indiana on the gridiron for the first time since 1991.

For @athlonsports.bsky.social: Tulane and Florida renew an old-school SEC series this afternoon in the Gasparilla Bowl. The Gators are trying to continue their momentum — on and off the field — with a fourth straight win while the Green Wave look to avoid a third consecutive loss.
Green Wave vs. Gators Gasparilla Bowl Breakdown
Tulane and Florida haven’t played since 1984. Their series will resume Friday in Tampa, where the Gators are heavy favorites.

Navy upsets Army, 31-13, the highest-scoring game in this series since 2011. There are flags on the field but none being planted as far as I can tell!

Another (passing!) touchdown for Horvath, this one to Eli Heidenreich for 52 yards. The ensuing spike celebration drew a questionable flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. Midshipmen firmly in control midway through the third.

Army gets a field goal out of the half on an 11-play, 47-yard drive to cut the deficit. DPI on 4th-and-1 downfield extended the drive for the Black Knights, and they took advantage. Navy still leads, 14-10.

Haven't checked every season's records, but today might be the first day ever with both an FBS regular-season game and an FBS bowl game. Time is truly a flat circle

Daily off one foot! Army is on the board and we have a game.

Heck of a half already for Horvath: 49 yards and a score through the air, 48 yards and a score on the ground. It's been all Navy so far.
December 14, 2024 at 9:04 PM
Daily's second interception of the season is a disastrous one. Navy, up 7-0, now has the ball in plus territory early in the second quarter after dominating the first.
December 14, 2024 at 8:59 PM
That's a 12-play, 65-yard touchdown drive by Navy to open the game, capped off by a Horvath run from the 1-yard line. Only Notre Dame and UTSA scored on their first possessions against Army this season.

My prediction for how the final CFP rankings will shake out: SMU stays in the field, and Texas and Penn State don’t fall very far for close conference championship game losses.

While doing research for a story I found out Oklahoma State played Texas Tech in Tokyo in 1988? And that was the game Barry Sanders set the rushing record? And where he was when he found out he won the Heisman?!

Love the Oregon State fans tentatively waiting to storm the field until the flag is settled. Don't need another ASU situation.

Alabama looked like a buzzsaw before going into Norman. Oklahoma hasn't won an SEC game since September. Figures.

There are like four teams that are gonna have to make the playoff despite not at all looking "playoff-caliber." Might as well take the one that's likely to have one loss (Indiana) instead one of these that's going to have three

Sure looks like some at-large bids are opening up on this fine November Saturday.

Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty has crossed the 2,000-yard mark on the season, accomplished in just 11 games.

First 2,000-yard season in FBS since four players in 2019 (Chuba Hubbard, Malcolm Perry, Jonathan Taylor, JK Dobbins)
