from a non-period-haver's perspective: they're such a sick cosmic joke that they're painful to begin with. Imagine other normal existing functions hurt like that by default and not because something's medically wrong. If blinking hurt, if urinating hurt, etc periods are straight up clown shoes

yep.

That's why I just said eff it and went with a base model mac mini. C$799 and the M4 all-in-one chip is exceptional. Lots of steam games are compatible too. It's also so smol, cute

But I don't really PC game anymore these days so the transition was easy. Creative software performance is tops

Being unable to really get any 3d work done while on my laptop on the go, effectively ruined all productivity. Using a physical mouse in my car has always been the worlds worst experience.

Are you on a laptop? Trackpad interface works.
Are you on a windows? 3 button mouse works.
Are you on a mac with the magic mouse? it works just fine.

Maya? You better have that three button mouse so help you

Fusion360 even more so.

Blender does a lot of things I really dislike. But I have to admit, run everywhere anytime in any quantity is basically the reason Im making the move; havent done much 3D animation this year, because I _had_ to be on a specific machine in my house to open my copy of Maya

Blender is just less daunting, and has full cross platform compatibility. Wont matter if im on windows, mac, or linux at the time inspiration hits, and wont matter _which_ computer I do it on because there's no license or licensing server or even installation limits to worry about. That's it.

I did eventually land a job, at a company I had no idea existed before in an industry I had no interest in. I’m still there 11 years later. I got to watch every single studio I got rejected from shutter and be replaced by restaurants. And now EA, of all things, got bought.

I’m way happier now.

I’ve had some shitty jobs before, but the ONE year I worked at EA not only traumatized me, but left me a broken man, and installed a mild bit of PTSD that over 10 years later still gets invoked whenever someone swings by my desk.

And no one would hire me afterward. Spent months interviewing. 5/5

One day I couldn’t even get out of my apartments parkade due to ice and snow, my boss called to ream me out that I can’t just stay home and that I’m required in office at all times

I couldn’t even take time off to mourn my beloved pet

After everything, they decided NOT to renew my contract 4/5

My stress was through the roof, imposter syndrome hit hard as my value and worth were constantly crushed by my supes who would shit on my work, send my code back to me with no feedback other than “do it again.”, when I’d mustered to ask what’s up they’d say “you’re a programmer, that’s the job” 3/5

Benefits didnt kick in for 6 months into employment, meaning I had my first child uncovered. Also meant no paternity leave. I had to work late every day, my wife and newborn barely saw me

EA hates you doing ANYTHING outside of work, couldn’t work on my own games NOR websites, became a tv zombie 2/5

Wife told me she was pregnant, I was in a dead end web dev job, applied at EA, after so many interviews offered me a job for more money than I ever thought I’d make.

I did get it, but, no signing bonus I had to leave pregnant wife behind while I moved and couch surfed 1/5

That was actually my main question was does the age verification “go away” once the sub ends
Glad to hear that isn’t the case, not that I’d even assume that by default but as a web dev and having dealt with company’s “trying to stay afloat” I’ve seen some shit 😒

Just gonna leave Zelda Williams response to it all:

Sure, then why not a one time fee? Why must it be behind their subscription model?

See I was thinking of using Tumblr as the authoring tool for blog posts and using something like IFTTT to send the post to an api on my website to then store in a db

Often enough, when I want to post, I’m on my phone, and an app like Tumblr is just too easy and too good not to use
