I did it.

I registered my first personal domain name in about a decade.

Always felt weird linking at large to my subdomain for the family web domain, it’ll be good to have that separation.

Not releasing it yet until I do something with it tho, sorry

got a few minutes with the headset in vrchat finally

entered a 18+ bar environment
siren head makes an immediate impression as I saunter in
"that's a fuckin' TALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL bitch right there"
"What the fuck is that?"
"is that a demogorgon??"

not one person correctly identified siren head lol
I got a badge in vrchat “6 Years!”

Which means I haven’t played vrchat in.. well seems to be about six years?

Which is weird bear I do remember playing it while living in this house, and we haven’t been in it a full five years yet..

Also my last avatar used was Siren Head apparently

Dug out my Rift S and installed VR Chat

They want me to age verify. Truthfully I have no problem with this.

So I go try to do it

But in order to age verify.. I have to have an active VRC+ Sub to do it?? $10/mo??

Whyyyyy

What is with fast food’s obsession with fucking Biscoff lately?

Has anyone in the history of man craved a Biscoff cookie legitimately?

Yet it’s like the bacon crazy years ago. Shakes, donuts, fucking croissants, it’s everywhere

The average linux experience to new users

Oh you need this thing installed, you use apt in the terminal for that. Oh THAT you need this other thing installed, you use Snap for that. Oops that app depends on this other thing, which is in a Flatpak. Oh this app you just move the binary to /usr/bin

So Affinity's big announcement today:
- The apps are now combined into one, not three
- The app is now free, no feature compromise
- If you want AI features there's a subscription tier just for it, but none in the free version
- Past owners get premium font pack

I’ve hired two housekeepers since moving to Vancouver, both lasted less than two months. The first one marked a bunch of my wife’s clothes to “claim later” (her words), and the other decided that she could show up whenever it suited her including “not at all”. Its been a disappointing experience
The part thats so frustrating about modern housekeeping, is that the stuff I really want help with; dishes, laundry, that kind of thing; they don’t or won’t do unless they’re a live in or you personally employ someone. If youre just one client on a list of clients, it’s not offered and often refused
Yup!

But it needs that at first, as this is where the ML comes into play. The puppetry should be live-training on object recognition, layout, obstacles, etc that are unique to your home

Is the Neo real? No not yet, BUT this is what I want ai for: to do the mundane So I can focus on the creative

The x1 Neo is exactly what I hoped AI was created for: doing my mundane house chores while I focus on what I really want to do

A house companion chore robot being priced a little less than a new cheap car ($599/mo or 20k) actually makes a ton of sense

One of those nights where I’m bouncing between things I want to do

- build a graph database
- start writing aoc’24 puzzles with C through XCode
- get a spring boot website in docker working cross platform including Apple silicon
- shave my face and head

Wound up just.. doing em all within 2h

Shell continues to be a shining example of how a gas station’s EV experience should operate

- properly maintained
- easy to use and handle
- app works
- card reader works
- 180kWh+ minimum rate of charge
- decent price (50c per kWh)
- Garbage and convenience store accommodations

“But the Apple tax” listen, this whole setup cost $1000CAD after tax, and the M4 chip inside of it wipes the floor with the competition.

The value proposition for one who uses high end productivity software 99% of the time, is UNBELIEVABLE.
Windows & Microsoft have been in the shitter, and small form factor PC’s have been too underwhelming while being too expensive.

The Mac Mini M4 performs great for what I was looking to build, is smaller, and the same price as JUST the video card I was going to buy.

So, I did a thing.

I mean he even has the little "web ring" like graphical link-lists to shit he likes. That's so old and awesome and I want to redo my site just to do that again, not that _anyone_ has any reason to visit my personal site lol

Went on a webcomic binge this last weekend, catching up and re-reading VGCats though got me inspired about old-school web again. It happens a lot more often these days.

But the way Scott does his website updates is so goddamned old-internet vibes it gets me all giddy and shit

That's the WHOLE sandwich

Sandwich Artist:
/dumps a fat load of pepper all over
/remakes sandwich
/forgets salt
/is apparently SO confused what salt even is
/doesn't speak English, in West Canada

Something I NEED to get over myself about is: trying to compete with mass manufactured "good enough" prices

I wan't to build a vanity, nothing special, my first bit of cabinetry.

But of course Home Hardware sells one for like $90.

..The counter-top alone costs about that much for me..

BUT-
Decided to spend last week taking advantage of the hot and dry air for an extended time to finally deal with the back yard and get my workshop back.

The good news is I've largely done that

The bad news is: just in time for the next bunch of rainy days

Back under (some new) tarps it all goes 🙄
I’ve given up on the shed project for now, the life situation that was calling for it has changed

Good News is, I got a bunch of unused lumber
Bad News is: It’s all been having out under a tarp in never ending rain for over a year, no idea how usable any of it is anymore

Work continues on this "simple" Lean-to shed design. Basically it's time to hammer out the siding and the door design and then assemble a parts list and blueprint plan

The speed at which my new car charges my phone is mind boggling.

5% to 100% in 45 minutes WITH gmaps and music? It's bizarre to come to work and back at home with a fully charged phone, every time, every day.

In my truck I was lucky to get away with 40% added to the battery..

I think my first “real” “adult movie” that I watched in full and not just glimpses here and there was Air Force One with Harrison “get off my plane!” Ford.

Either that or Independence Day

Could have also been Men in Black

I’m 39, I was mostly a gamer kid, my brother was the movie watcher
okay as we’re all discussing it I’ll ask: what inappropriate-for-your-age-group film did you watch as a kid?

mine was Terminator when I was 10 or so which was a) brilliant but b) gave me a lifelong revulsion of stop motion

A couple extra observations over those 3000km:

1. You know what’s cool is moving your car and not seeing any dark spots or even worrying about oil leaks

2. The starter on your car has limited amount of starts in it. These things have no starters, just an off/off switch
3000km in the ID.4 so far

Experience: super pleasant

As far as commuter cars go? Couldn’t ask for better

I cannot wait to take this thing on a road trip this summer
