Why is Quentin Tarantino choosing NOW of all times, when he would otherwise be receiving universally positive press with the KILL BILL theatrical rerelease, to take unprovoked potshots at widely loved and unquestionably lower-tier actors? Literally sucking wind out of his own sails.

Did Taylor crash NBC?

She-Hulk ep. 8 is the best episode of Disney-produced Daredevil content so far, and I will not be taking any questions.

Old school-ish #GTMW Eve this weekend. New Glarus R&D release (VSB!) and a footed pilsner glass-fill, Muskellounge for a whole bunch of northern WI/MI beer, Robin Room for Fair State, and Working Draft for a spaghett. Couldn't ask for anything more but more hours in the day.

Fresh on the newsstands, the August issue of Isthmus features my review of Orchard in the far-flung (from Madison) reaches of Verona. Between green service and some doughy carbs, there's room for improvement, but it's a great room to spend time in, and brunch in particular is a winner.

I have purchased all the groceries for this year's batch of Great Taste Limburger sandwiches, though I may need another loaf of pumpernickel. But maaan, y'all better have your OFFICE SPACE quotes *ready* because they're gonna be moving fast. #gtmw

What kinds of beers go with limburger? Untold numbers, it turns out. A report from the Great Taste of the Midwest 2016.

I have had the new McDonald's Snack Wraps and I am more convinced than ever that these things are catnip for viral clout-chasers online. They're barely mediocre, and that's averaging out the sheer suckitude of the McDonald's spicy sauce with the merely-okay combo of tender and ranch. Big Skip Energy

All right MCU bluesketeers. Did you watch #IRONHEART? Did you hate it? Tell me why. Tell me what you saw that you didn't like, compared to what you DO like in the MCU.

Be warned: I'm going to argue with you, but I want you to try to make a case for not liking it, to say nothing of not loving it.

Episode 3 of #Ironheart is immediately going on the list of best Marvel Television needle drops.
June 26, 2025 at 11:07 PM
I *want* #Ironheart, I think it might set up some really interesting things and ask some useful questions about antiheroes in the MCU -- but why is it not even billboarding Disney+'s main page? I had to *search* to find it and add it to my Watchlist. And it *still* doesn't say a premiere time.

1) They actually made films of ALL THREE Fifty Shades books, all starring Dakota Johnson.
2) Their combined budget was $150 million and their combined box office was $1.325 BILLION.
3) They're all terrible.
4) There is no clearer illustration that box office must no longer define a film's success.

Bad news/good news to start the week if you're a Twin Cities food fan. Word is out that Young Joni will close this fall due to a lease dispute, but on the other hand, Myriel and Bûcheron were somewhat unexpected winners at the James Beard Awards in Chicago on Monday night. #jbfa

I don't have a lot of faith in America right now, but seeing JJ Spaun, a dude of Mexican and Filipino heritage, crushing a mile-long putt on 18 to win the US Open and hearing the crowd start chanting "USA, USA" for him is pretty fucking rad.

Superman punching a guy's teeth out and having them *ting ting-ting* against the fourth wall is exactly the kind of James Gunning of the film I was worried would happen.
June 12, 2025 at 3:23 AM
I have never seen a Hollywood person as overtly uncomfortable in a talk show outfit as Dakota Johnson on Fallon right now. She's talking about her bad choice, fidgeting, tugging, just seeming kinda miserable.

Sometimes the brilliance of a line of music takes years to really properly strike you, and so I'd like to thank Beck circa 1994 for "the insects are huge / and the poison's all been used" for being particularly brilliant right now.

Good morning beer fans! If you're in Madison & looking to line up for #gtmw tickets, post your line reports to keep the people updated.

As of about 6:10, there were two early birds in line at Starkweather Brewing. The dozen or so with me at Working Draft are sticking to the rules & waiting in cars.

This week we say goodbye to the theatrical calendar for the MCU's Phase 5. Without further ado, here are my predictions -- now with odds -- for the mid- and post-credit scenes for #THUNDERBOLTS*

I want to be mad that my iPhone's FaceID can't recognize me if I'm whistling but can when I'm eating a huge bite of cookie, but honestly it checks out.

If you're a fan of Asahi Super Dry, the first batch ever brewed on US soil was just released on tap at Octopi Brewing in Waunakee, Wisconsin.

Saw a McLaren driving around Madison yesterday, with a plate that read CMPNS8N, and I've never been more charmed by a level of self-deprecation.

Closing night, and our only trip to Flix for the 2025 Fest. The MIDDLETOWN line is already stretching outdoors -- but we are not, thanks to ✨anxiety✨. #wifilmfest

I can't think of a product or service that feels more absurdly LA, but if I'm going to ever try The Last Crumb cookies, it's going to be during a week when Crumbl is doing a Kardashian menu.

Is it Sunday? Am I drinking an old fashioned? Do I have a big G on my t-shirt? Yes? Then let's watch the Green and Gold. Back at the Barrymore one more time, for NO PACKERS, NO LIFE. #wifilmfest

Had a nostalgic #wifilmfest meal at Dumpling Haus on Friday, but today's Mint Mark pancakes and Calabrian potatoes might be the true spiritual fuel for the week.
