I'm Kai! They/them. Library worker, writer in progress. Here be books and creatures and brainweirds and queerness.
So can anyone explain to me why the newest Drizzt book (or Drizzt Jr.) looks like it was written by Colleen Hoover?

Also because I think it's funny, I put up a display around the theme of "books that were super popular a few years ago that you probably never got around to reading but now's a good time to pick them up because we won't be getting as many new books for a while."

I forgot to share April's book display, so here's a double feature!

April's theme is Freida McFadden Readalikes.

May is AAPI Heritage Month.

When you can't decide between a Black History Month display or a Valentine's Day display so you put a bunch of Black romance on the display.

(we do have other displays in the library as well, this is just the one I'm in charge of)

New month, new display, this time for National Picture Book Month. My current fav is "We Are Definitely Human" by X. Fang.

Obligatory Halloween display. I don't know if anyone is going to notice that it's all queer and BIPOC authors but I did do that on purpose.

Book displays!

Last month was Books in Translation for International Translation Day, and this month we have readalikes for Kristin Hannah's The Women, which still has about 200 holds on it.

Library display: Books in Spanish!

Both an easy one for me because all our Spanish materials are labeled but also a bit of a scavenger hunt getting all the different age ranges and language learning materials.

I tried to take a photo but it doesn't nearly capture just how ORANGE it was!

I have been wanting to do this display forever! It's non-HP magic schools!

Have a magical school year!

(this is going to be my last time running the kids display, but I still get to do the general one and I always like to sneak a few kids and YA books onto there)
August 26, 2024 at 1:12 AM
New work display is dragons! because dragons are cool (and I was not particularly impressed with Fourth Wing)
August 17, 2024 at 3:21 AM
New display! Books in translation and/or set outside the US. It is (not surprisingly) not quite as popular as the dragons display, but I'm still very proud of it and at least have a chance of keeping it filled.
August 13, 2024 at 12:13 AM
On the plus side I've been able to take over several of the displays at work so behold: Dragons vs. Unicorns in the kids area, and Olympics/sports for the general display
