Family history/genealogy, books, architecture, politics, a bit of dog, cat, whatever amuses me. Blogging on family history at www.GenerationsofNomads.com
I’ve been missing (health stuff—finishing radiation tomorrow) and not doing any family history. Yesterday my lovely 2nd cousin sent me this. Our mutual gr grandmother, Stella (Owen) Miller, wrote the words. Such a lovely gift!

I’ll also be permanently canceling my Amazon Prime subscription, buying a book (clearly an essential) at my preferred indie bookstore, paying cash, and staying off social media for the day. It feels a little futile, but hopefully it’s a small step towards making an impact. Please join me!

I have one like that. My 3x gr grandmother, Ann Elizabeth Snowden (1808-1847) married Francis Magruder Hall, who died when she was 23. She remarried to Charles C. Hill in 1836. Children from both marriages. Predeceased Charles and is buried with Francis. Baffling! #AncestryHour #Genealogy

Hi #GenHour! I'd hoped to have a blog post to share today, but am not quite done. Tuesday was the 100th anniversary of the death of Clementine Bodenhamer (1853-14 Jan 1925), my gr gr grmother. As a girl she lived on the Missouri farm of her slaveholding grandparents & lived to see women's suffrage.

Clementine “Clemmie” Esther Bodenhamer (1854-1925) was one of the reasons I got interested in my #familyhistory. She was my great great grandmother from Marshfield, Missouri and who could resist a name like hers? Remembering her today on the 100th anniversary of her death. #Genealogy

This adorable building is Barrock Lodge, Lyth, Caithness, Scotland, where my 3x grgrandfather George Oliphant was living at the time of his death Dec 10 1904, 120 years ago. I’m having technical problems with a Wordpress blog post on my September visit there, so here’s a little teaser. #genealogy

I’m lucky to have many cherished family heirlooms. This jacket belonged to my grandmother, Elsie (Mills) Oliver. She’s wearing it here in an engagement portrait taken about 1924. It was probably made in Lebanon, where my grandfather was raised & where they lived for 20 yrs. #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

I made one a few years ago that included place of death too. I need to make a few additions/corrections now and can’t find the doc. Link to a blog post on it in my comment below. #GenHour #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

Here are my gr grandparents, Franklin Pierce Miller (1871-1960) and Stella Lee (Owen) Miller (1881-1942). I think this was a wedding photo, probably taken in Elkland, Missouri on 9 May 1899 when Stella was 17. And Frank’s hair! #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

Some of you from the dark place know that I took my dream trip in September to Scotland, where I spent time exploring my great grandfather’s origins in Caithness. The trip was magical and I need to write about it. If I say it here, maybe I’ll finish the first blog post by next #GenHour!
