It’s been a helpful medicine on such a doom and gloom morning for Scottish rugby. Amazing what these lads can do when free from the shackles of Townsend

Take the assist to continue a try contribution streak

And just like that

21) Almost a decade in charge, and all he has to show for it is a few Calcutta Cups from the best generation of players in the professional era.
22) It’s time for change, it’s been time for change for a while.
23) Under no circumstances, should his contract be renewed.

17) And that is all on Townsend.
18) The ‘pool of death’ excuse doesn’t work when he’s the man coaching us into those positions.
19) All of the issues today, I broadly think are coaching issues. Game plan, selection, mindset. All coachable.
20) He’s the longest tenured head coach of a Tier 1 side

15) As such, anything above 6th in the rankings come December appears out of the question, and even then 6th probably won’t have been enough to be a top seed in the RWC draw.
16) So for the third RWC in a row Scotland are looking at being in a crap position heading into the draw.

13) Now realistically Scotland need to beat Samoa comfortably next week and do the same to USA and Tonga in November.
14) Then it’s Argentina and New Zealand, to make up for this result Scotland need to beat both. However they’ve never beat the AB’s, and on today that doesn’t look like changing.
July 12, 2025 at 11:25 AM
11) Not picking a 13 was odd, Redpath is a great 12, Smith a great 15. Neither are 13’s.
12) This was always going to be a tough ask in a Lions year, but it was a must-win game. Selection was mad, especially given the strong performances last week.
July 12, 2025 at 11:25 AM
9) Way too many soft shoulders
10) Too many players looked like they were allergic to targeting the breakdown
10) For all he brings in the loose, and that’s a lot, Ashman’s lineout is too much of a liability at this level
July 12, 2025 at 11:25 AM
7) Scotland looked out on their feet after 10 minutes. Did they not travel early enough to acclimatise to the humidity? That also would have helped with
8) The handling, atrocious. You’d have thought the ball was covered in Vaseline the way Scotland kept dropping it
July 12, 2025 at 11:25 AM
The bad:

4) Scotland are never going to beat Fiji at their own game, daft game plan
5) Scotland are completely inflexible, unable to change the game plan when the game requires it
6) Scotland get too desperate too easily, summed up by the needless red card, one of countless offsides.
