Two things can be true at the same time:

1) Ange has badly been let down in terms of recruitment

2) Ange has badly let the fans down by playing tactically naive football and not getting better performance and consistency out of the players

Son's also been very poor

This is not a Johnson dig. I like Johnson and hate the abuse he gets.

However, he offers absolutely nothing on the left.

Werner should have started.

Ah man, that would be the dream!

Even Pedro Neto. Surely we could have been more ambitious and sold him the dream of being the absolute fulcrum of our team at Spurs, versus being one of about 6,000 wingers at Chelsea?

Would really be nice to push the boat out for a change

I think the decision to play Brennan on the left was absolutely idiotic. We played with 10 men for most of that game.

Brennan is exceptionally good at coming in from the right and getting to the back post. On the left he might as well not be on the pitch.

Ange made a baffling decision.

I thought they did quite well getting the ball into Biss and Gray, particularly in the first half. Both Biss and Gray were then fairly progressive, particularly Biss with his carrying. After that though, most moves fizzled out into nothingness.

I think it is objectively better than Nuno and Conte, but at this point I'm not sure it's good enough...

For clarity, I'm very slightly leaning towards: fuck it, let's give him his dribbly bois and see what happens 😊
December 5, 2024 at 10:32 PM
To be fair, we were getting the ball into midfield a lot. We just seemed completely unable to turn that into dangerous final third play
December 5, 2024 at 10:31 PM
Yeah. I think I've heard the line on View From the Lane a few times - Spurs have one first choice keeper, and three third choice keepers.
December 5, 2024 at 10:30 PM
It's very clear that we need two exceptional dribbly wingers to make Ange's system work.

The club needs to decide whether to spend £100m - £140m on that profile of player, or to bring in another manager who might be able to make more of the players already at the club.

The thing is we'll probably do alright against Chelsea and Liverpool. In the transitional games when we counter we tend to look good. It's the 13 teams who defend deep against us he appears to have absolutely no solution for.
December 5, 2024 at 10:25 PM
For every City result, there's 2 or 3 games where we play less than the sum of our parts. That's ultimately my issue with him at the moment.

I think he put the right players in the right positions based on who he had available.

I think the greater issue is that even with the absences that spurs team is man-for-man better than Bournemouth's. And yet they created chance after chance and we were like a sieve. And created nothing.

*great performances to come
December 5, 2024 at 10:12 PM
Yeah, this one was bad. I reached that point of fatalism at half-time: well, there's always next season.

I still think there are great performances this season and you never know with a cup. I'm just not convinced that this is the long-term solution

Don't get me wrong, I like beating City 4-0. But I'm not sure I can stand getting smash and grabbed by every bottom half team. #Tottenham
