so the main "stretch to" bone copies the rotation of the outer one, the small ones copy the scale of the main one? What's making the small ones drag behind like that?

Cool! U prob may know this but remember u can also turn down ur view clipping distance so stuff doesnt clip like that in the viewport

If ur not going to subdivide it i think u can just cut the cracks with the kmife tool and delete the cracked areas. But also whats it for?
