Strangely I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we have women who wear pants and dont wear headscarves. Including a priest's wife! Incredibly embarrassing to type that out on the internet, but it seems to be an issue to some. We are far less rigorous overall. Some prefer ROCOR now. 🤷‍♂️

Yea, it seems the broader issue is that people are using Orthodoxy as some sort of identity marker and/or as some sort of tool to preserve their "culture." I've been thinking a lot more about what that really means lately. Not many positive thoughts on it.

I guess we maybe have a higher % of liberal parishioners bc of our location? But the Church itself is consistent with the broader Orthodox communion. Our priest is pretty adamant about remaining outside of any sort of political descriptors too. It's been sort of strange lately.

Ive just decided that all I can do is worry about what is in front of me, and that is my parish and the people there. We've certainly had some of these people show up. But what's interesting is that St John's has more recently been criticized as a "lib parish" and we have even had ppl leave bc of it

Yea I've been IG friends with her for a while and have talked to her some. I think she is great. I'm just kind of tired of these talking points always being the headline, but I suppose there is some validity to it.

It's also worth noting that I, at one time, was also a gigantic piece of shit. And depending on who you ask, that may still be true.

I say this as someone who struggles a lot with faith and religion, but Orthodoxy is a long game. It teaches transformation by repeatedly dying to yourself. Eating God in order to become God. As hard as it may be, patience is demanded of me if, or when, I encounter this mindset from newcomers.

well said. the whole thread.

Would love an update in a month or so! I wholeheartedly agree that analog > digital but with music I always find myself switching back to Apple Music. I am too deep in their ecosystem and it just makes the most sense. Convenience ends up winning out. Tidal was great though. Havent tried Qobuz.

thanks for this! never heard of her, but I'll give this a read.

please do!

For sure! I'll see if I can find anything he's said. Doesnt necessarily have to Orthodox either. I just assumed the major issues with adoption were that its such an overly complicated and expensive process. I am always happy to call out pro-life folks when their values aren't actually pro-life.

just following up here to say that I have had my Clara BW for a few days now and love it! I bought this on impulse completely bc of you, an internet stranger. haha.

At risk of sounding very stupid, can you point me toward any resources to learn more about this? I'm an Orthodox Christian who also has major issues with the conservative pro-life movement.
