Lovely idea
A great way to fight back against AI taking away work from creatives is to buy art by actual humans.

So the UK Met Office is inviting people to suggest up to 5 names for storms.

And apparently lots of people have been suggesting "Storm Bigoil", along with BP, Equinor, Exxon & Shell...

This is obviously appalling & definitely not to be emulated via this link: www.metoffice.gov.uk/forms/name-o...

A thread of good news, sorely needed
There was a lot going on this week, so maybe you missed this pod on the current state of global electricity, but it is really worth your time. Tons of insights in here, some of which will surprise you. Perhaps a chain with some charts?
How is clean electricity doing globally?
Clean electricity hits 40% globally as solar keeps doubling every two years and China's energy revolution outpaces the rest of the world.

Report by @carbonbrief.org re additional emissions (to 2030) from the US as a result of a Trump presidency.

"the extra 4GtCO2e would be equivalent to double all of the emissions savings secured globally, over the past five years, by deploying wind, solar, electric vehicles, nuclear and heat pumps."
This @carbonbrief.org analysis estimates the potential climate impact of the next US administration.

Lowlights:

* adds 4 GtCO2e of emissions by 2030
* nearly $1T in extra damages
* estimate doesn't even include fossil fuel expansion
* all but puts the nail in the coffin of the 1.5C target
Analysis: Trump election win could add 4bn tonnes to US emissions by 2030 - Carbon Brief
A victory for Donald Trump in November’s presidential election could add 4bn tonnes of US emissions by 2030 compared with Joe Biden’s plans
