We do something similar with Conditions that *escalate* over time:
Example of "Escalating Conditions" consuming more real-estate in a Player's Inventory. Just a post-it note folded into fourths and unfolded as the conditions impacts increase.

I'd probably reduce Damage (half or Disadvantage) but run it relatively normally if the Character's have Training. Of course, critical failures could introduce something like one of these:
