Hi Mike, Do you think some of them would be open to coming in-person to a Workshop Im hosting for professionals involved in rebuilding efforts. I was at the Altadena site yesterday and there were tons of people doing debris removal w/o the EPA sign off. and no PPE

Hosted a meeting yesterday w/ building industry & emergency professionals on what rebuilding might look like. Planning similar for an East Side event w/Altadena focus. Who are some community organizers I should reach out to? Caltech folks monitoring air/environmental? Insurance advocates, RE agents?

would like to bring together designers, planners, developers, builders, academics, policy people, etc as we collectively face the trauma, challenges and future rebuilding efforts of the great city of los angeles.

was staying in the nose bleed section of beverly hills and saw a small secondary (woodley?) around 8:30am and decided to go. brave BH young firemen w grim expressions packing up to leave the station. air quality poor but didn’t realize impacts till I got south near torrance. irvine now v windy/dusty

There’s a trio of juvenile coyotes roaming the Oaks section of the Hollywood Hills. I see them all the time—this video was taken ~7am. They look well-fed, fearless/curious or dumb. Kinda cute. The german shepherd I’m watching neither guards me nor scares them. I honk my horn to shoo them at night.

ha! i should also show the ~15 pounds of large format paper i carry around in my trunk w/varying stages of permit corrections or project development. i’m not a writer or graphic designer… i deal between the imaginary/digital and physical. it’s a challenge
December 23, 2024 at 5:11 PM
My hard drive w/a lifetime archive of personal art & architecture (cad fr every firm/project) also stolen 🥵. it’s taken 1 month to grieve. i can’t even begin to pull the pieces together…Im late-adopter baby genX. Everything was eventually going to go cloud. will eventually mirror digital/physical

also: 2017 macbook pro w/ incase cover (bulky insurance), hobonichi cousin planner, grippy ripple edge iphone 11pro w/100k photos on it. peripherals are in my patagonia waist pouch which i need attached to me at all times so as not to loose keys, wallet… and a flat belkin pouch someone gave me.

planning my new yr by planning the physical things that aid me in the process/procedures of work. my vintage (gifted gucci) bag was stolen. i had taken it from storage for repair. i generally use canvas bags but after the theft, i said F it, i’m gonna use the other fancy bag.

ah the literary types have varying use-types and methods than the visual art-scrap-book types, this has all been a fascinating exploration, I need to figure out how to work with it with some of my needs. I now use pencil for future planning TBDs and parker serenity blue ink for “hard planning” 🥲

they ran out of midori plastic covers so i improvised an old school book cover for the hobonichi cousin—an unused architectural print but since it’s work-related it’s making me avoidant about using it bc this project is giving me 😝 right now.

I bought the sushi-covered Hobonichi Weeks and it came bent out of shape. The paper color is much darker yellow than my Hobonichi cousin! If the hobonichi cousin had extra blank grid pages, like 20pp it could be perfect for me, but only 3 pages! 🥹

To compare shadow lines/massing & scale, I’ve washed out the modern version. You can see better how the shallow depth of eaves/lack of focused detail work to emphasize masses, lack of wall-to-window ratio, flattened grid ratios, flat stock supports result in a less than elegant whole. craftsmanstein

dotty dotty inky on moleskin. i like the proportion and lightness of the 9x7 but paper too yellow and bleedy

some more months… the kid is incredibly prolific and his mom posts stories flipping through his sketchbook. she’s based in LA and does a lot of work with a local homeless arts org. she has an incredible soulfulness and its a marvel to see her son share his vision of the world

My graphic designer friend put together a family calendar using her (genius) son’s artwork. He’s ~8 years old and definitely on the professional artist spectrum. Look at his wonderful work. printed on shutterfly.
