That's where I grew up and my family still lives (just returned from visiting yesterday) - you've chosen a great place to live!!

Each of us contributes incrementally to a future we may never see. If it is in our lifetime, if our science, or our contribution, is part of a practical solution, it will likely be one sentence in a vast tome with contributions from thousands of authors across dozens of (not just science) fields.

It also a.) saves money for homeowners ; b.) addresses health inequalities - reducing interior temperatures through better installation, installing heat pumps in houses without ACs. Heat waves already disproportionately affects those with existing health conditions + low-income neighborhoods.

So it turns out on closer examination...maybe this was a GOOD call that would have actually helped patients and reduced costs without saddling them with medical bills?

A big insurer backed off its plan to pay less for anesthesia. That’s bad.

Can't wait to watch, this is one of my favorite topics! Have you read "Educating Physicians," by the Carnegie Institute's Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching?

On my morning walk today, saw literally dozens of bikers zooming past traffic in beautiful fall weather - getting exercise, getting to where they were going faster, clearly having fun - and it made my heart sing.

Isn't part of indigenous sovereignty indigenous tribes getting to decide what THEY want to to? Which would include deciding whether or not to make a deal with Tesla. We can't both say "you decide, your land!" and "you can't be trusted to know what's best for your land."

Hi! I write a Substack on adult learning and happen to be writing a post about pottery. Could I include one of your photos? - will credit you and link back to this post!

probably the best book ever written. still read the last line whenever i need a pick-me-up and a reminder to do the most good you can in the world, sans despair about it not being enough.

Came to this post from the BaseCamp FB group, but couldn't agree more! If you are a hiker, spend some time volunteering too - there's a huge backlog of trail maintenance that lets us keep enjoying the outdoors. Plus it's just fun!

This is an important story to share b/c there's an assumption that government = always inefficient and private corporations = always maximally EFFICIENT and that's simply not true.

Definitely - watching the one right next to my house grow has been bananas. Every time I walk by I have to re-calculate when we planted because it's hard to believe it's only been 2 years.
