thank goodness for this break in the heat, ya girl was NOT doing well. I kept seeing lil birds on my bird cam panting with their beak open and I would go out to refill the bird bath hoping it would help :(( they are so happy today

I told you there were a lot of babies!! I only saw 2 at a time but I now know of over 6 baby house sparrows feeding at the feeder across a couple videos (1 out of frame in this clip). it reminds me of those old chicken pecking paddle toys with the pendulum. do you know what I mean? 🪶

Watching DW The Devil's Chord when it aired was fun and thrilling. Watching it after having seen Jinkx Monsoon's tenure on Drag Race, the doc Drag Becomes Him, and now "Pirates! The Penzance Musical" is MORE delicious and delightful. I have so much more appreciation for JM's talent and development.

I’ve been watching our kelp forests decline across my lifetime and it makes me very sad because kelp is cool as hell and supports a lot of marine life so I made a quilt about it.

House Sparrows are in full force lately (and always?). With multiple nests, their cheeps and peeps tend to drown out the sound of other birds throughout the day. Here is a brief clip from my #bird feeder cam, where a momma feeds one of her chubby fledglings (I have seen it feed itself just fine 😂)

The location of their non-breeding grounds-Brazil-was only discovered in 2012 using geolocators. Further study with multi-sensor data loggers showed that Black Swifts spend over 99% of their 8 month non-breeding period airborne. They fly day and night, sleeping (and feeding) on the wing. It seems impossible but this non-stop flight behavior is also seen in some Old World swift species during the non-breeding period.

my mom's doctor believes her surgery successfully removed her cancer 😊 it was a high success rate procedure so this is not unexpected but it is a huge relief nonetheless

Canada Geese parents readily adopt babies, so when I saw an adult male Mallard hanging out with these geese I took photos to make a joke they "adopted" him.

But when I zoomed in, there's also a Mallard duckling? The whole group moved together for the hour I watched them, like a big mixed family? 🪶
