What was Choire’s old line at Gawker? The New York Times is just a fancy blog.
Under Katie Kingsbury, the New York Times Opinion section has doubled in size — nearly 200 people, bigger than many American newspapers and magazines. What kind of publication is she building? nymag.com/intelligence...

Maybe we can bury that old “Gawker was a good website” chestnut forever and replace it with “Gawker was a Likud website.”
Nick Denton saying that Peter Thiel — the man who spent millions to literally destroy Denton's company (successfully) — "is right, as usual" is... quite something.
There are still eyebrow-raising realignments to discover if you scroll around long enough...

I am certain Nazism will be the death of so many of us. Anybody’s guess what level of sincerity it will be.

Nazi Megazord has once again entered the chat.

If your economic boycott doesn’t include a 24/7/365 ban of the NYT and WaPo, and I mean even sharing links to their stories, then I don’t want to dance in a Costco parking lot with you.

I said it then, I’ll say it again. If you weren’t pro-Occupy Wall Street, you were anti-democracy.
America is finally being run like a business: a business acquired by private equity, leveraged to the hilt, its assets gutted, workforce slashed, and pensions raided before it gets offloaded in a fire sale. Hope you like working gig jobs for stock options in a company that won’t exist in five years.

There is zero, absolute zero, downside for Hochul in doing the right thing here.
Just bully Hochul on removing Adams like we did with starting Congestion Pricing. Two great things in 2025 to give New York City a glow-up

Lady on the train to DC next to me is reading a book. I’m refreshing all my social media apps. We are not the same.

I’m sure this is universal but I checked my FB feed for the first time in forever… and wow. It’s beyond anything I’ve seen before. Total war. Thanks for the Heritage Foundation > Libs of TikTok filtered explanation of cultural Marxism, Carla. Get some rest.

Thinking about who I followed on Twitter during Trump’s first term. Just the right mix of (imagine all of these in quotes) media, comedians who only occasionally talked about sports, writers, activists (not in academia), crushes, musicians (no more than 5), and petty nobodies like myself. I miss it.

When I see some anti-congestion pricing people justify why they’ll still drive into the city instead of using mass transit because of the “math,” it’s like, great, do that! MTA needs the money. That’s the point.

I miss the me who would’ve gone to this for 10 mins and acted like it was the moon landing.

The golden age of blogging. I could see Martin Starr as a MeFi crank.
We're closer to 2040 than we are to 2010. In fact, if a Wonder Years reboot were to premiere this year, the "wonder years" it would showcase are 2005 to 2010.
"Many of today's babies will still be in the peak of their careers in the year 2100"

On the one hand, wild to think my daughter will only be in her 70s when the next century starts

But then again my grandmother just kicked off 2025 at age 98 - and *her* mother was born in 1893

There is no good argument for the preservation of cable news, WaPo, NYT, etc. Your time and money is better spent elsewhere.

Was gonna post something about my cats here but realized that scraping the bottom of the barrel is probably not a great way to set the tone.

OK, I am seeing way too much Thomas Chatterton Williams in my feed. Blocking that idiot is step 1 here.
