It sounds as if the Paris route will use newer coaches from the 1990s. Realistically, they're not going to be able to afford new rolling stock; the best we can hope for is that OBB flog them some of their older sleeper coaches as they upgrade their NightJets.

Taking a ferry as a foot passenger involves just as much security as St Pancras; I think the main issue is the number of passengers in such a small space. I certainly had my bag X-rayed at Harwich; I should have done at Newhaven as well, but they waved me through for some reason.
