I’m h it absolutely hits differently as an adult. I missed all the struggle as a kid and saw all the adventure. I missed all the racism and sexism too… really just wanted to run free on the prairie with my bonnet off like Laura! I too thankfully have not known real hunger. ❤️

Spent all day grinding wheat to eat only bread and twisting hay to keep the stove going. Misery. “Mrs boast was thinner and her cheeks had lost their rosy glow” BECAUSE SHE WAS STARVING

I read them all as a kid and have reread some of them multiple times now with various children.

Kidlit in general is good for when the brain needs easier reading. I read it anyway but often decide when to read what based on my cognition at the time.

This is not helpful but my kids cut up all our old stuff and make “clothes” for stuffies. Or, recently, my son made himself a boxing glove out of torn jeans. Pretty good hand stitching actually lol
