As much as I hate to thank about buying school supplies in early July, I do appreciate the insight! Thanks @paigecerulli.bsky.social for including Erik in your story.
It may feel like summer just started but now’s a smart time for back-to-school shopping. Why? Tariffs could drive up prices or limit availability of popular items, says Erik Guzik of the University of Montana College of Business. He spoke with @paigecerulli.bsky.social for GoBankingRates.

Cuts at the Department of Education are already impacting financial aid in big ways. @hughesstephanie.bsky.social of @marketplace.org talked to Robin Thompson in the financial aid office @hmc.edu about what she's seeing and the effects on students and colleges.

Colleges and students find it harder to get financial aid information after Department of Education cuts
According to a new survey, nearly a third of colleges have dealt with delays in getting FAFSA information, which is key to providing students with answers about the cost of college attendance.

The climate for Muslim voices on campus isn’t just difficult, it’s "untenable." @grinnellcollege.bsky.social’s Caleb Elfenbein speaks with University Business about how anti-Muslim hostility is challenging higher ed and what must change to protect inclusive discourse.
Why Muslim voices face an 'untenable environment' in higher ed right now

I'm fascinated by sleep research -- mostly because I am so very bad at it. That anxiety override is a powerful thing though as confirmed by this article.
After a long day of work, most people are exhausted. Yet, for some, an energetic second wind delays their rest and relaxation. Roxanne Prichard, professor of psychology at the University of St. Thomas, explains this phenomenon in a new article by Clarissa Brincat for @livescience.com.

It's been a busy week in higher ed...will it be the turning point many hope it is? @tvparrot.bsky.social makes the case.
@harvard.edu brought the fight many of us wanted to see by taking the battle to the court of public opinion. We wanted an institution to push back on why we do what we do and the value we bring. As a communicator, I wanted that pushback to be done with words and actions.

Harvard delivered.

Harvard’s bold move this week was the catalyst that should spur others to push back.

Worthwhile thread that—importantly—points out the work the NYT opinion pages have been doing to trash #highered for years.
The Times defense of higher education, while welcome, still engages in a lot of the tropes that Trump is using. I would love if there was some reflection on the role the Times has played, especially on its opinion page, which has been blasting higher ed for a decade.
