Hi everyone - I'm Kristina! I am aiming to become a Veterinarian and for my previous degrees (BSc. Hons and MSc) I studied the behaviour & physiology of bats in North America. Bats use their echolocation abilities to find prey, but also to find each other and avoid obstacles. Iturralde-Pólit &co show that the warm, dry air that comes with climate change, alters these calls, potentially costing the bats more energy to make them

People on twitter are losing their minds over this, including several scientists who I have to assume have either brain poisoned themselves or were always like this. People don't always cite what's best; they cite what they know & researchers from historically excluded communities get the short end.

🧠🌟🐭 Excited to share some of my postdoc work on the evolution of dexterity!

We compared deer mice evolved in forest vs prairie habitats. We found that forest mice have:
(1) more corticospinal neurons (CSNs)
(2) better hand dexterity
(3) more dexterous climbing, which is linked to CSN number🧵

Bat boxes offer a safe haven for bats, but they may not be so safe during heatwaves. The temperature inside can rocket to more than 50C during the day when bats are roosting if the box is located in full sun, placing bats at risk of fatal dehydration
