Feral gay autistic library/archive/museum data dev she/her/m/it living with cats, guineafowl, Nigerian dwarf goats, cultivating native plants and learning wild basketry while still coviding and screaming into the void while listening to scifi audiobooks
Still riding this high from last Saturday.

Ants found an open (but lidded) can of cat food on the counter.

In a 100-year old farm house, they will always find a way.

My solution:
Chick waterer base. Water and a drop of dish soap in. Pyrex ramekin lid over the center. Open cat food can(s) stacked on that. ✅

Start of initial attempt at sculptural weaving a guineafowl head. I think it is heading for scrap-and-start over, but the process is kind of addictive (and mind-bending, thinking about shape in a completely new way, and hard on the hands)

Latest basket, all of black walnut leaflet stems. I also registered for a 6-week Sculptural Basketry course at Carrboro ArtsCenter starting in April. #wildbasketry

Latest basket experiment: young bamboo spokes, wisteria bark and black walnut leaf stem weavers.

Tiny, wonky plaited basket made from elder bark. Bias plaited sides felt like utter chaos. Still not sure how this thing came together! #basketry #wildbasketry

My comfort audiobook routine is now (1) entire Murderbot Diaries by @marthawells.com series, followed by (2) Service Model by @aptshadow.bsky.social.

I'm on #2 now and with the ongoing coup by inept techbro, feel like we're speeding toward Central Services faster than ever. 😭

Took down two sweetgum trees in order to eventually expand guinea run. They were probably too big for me to tackle alone, but I lived. Now I have a mess to clean up. I wonder if any of it can be used for basketry-type purposes. HMMM...

But anyway, I went to a local craft night at a coffee shop and worked on this wonky bird. The frame is blueberry twigs pruned yesterday. The weavers are stripped wisteria bark.

Pruned the blueberry bush. I don't know if these can be used to make things, but the twig colors and buds sure are pretty

Taking up basketry means every yard task takes even longer than before (which is saying something) because I'm compelled to process and sort potential materials as I go.
