heh. was not expecting to see somebody from this angle waking up and logging into blue sky...

... but yes I had that problem until I started using a roc 'n' sock drum stool as a chair.

between guitar and vr-motion stuff it's practical. + reminds me to take breaks.

my test website is in html, i'm using cnd.exe to ssh to aws and cowbeing code my blog post live using sudo nano.

it was a long 'blog entry, hence cmd spanning 2 monitors. word-wrapping is too new.

ok @corsair.com mb + cpu power cables, 4-pin fan splitter, 2x pcie power cables (not shown) complete.

now let's see how badly i'll have to alter the drive power cables to fit this murphy build...
January 2, 2025 at 11:34 PM
@corsair.com 12-inches is not long enough!

custom cables it is...

... this is turning into a murphy build. don't particularly care, save for the time ”wasted” on building it correctly instead of using bullshit extenders...

so why are you doubling wires on the psu/mb cable? (type 4)

rofl

twitter suggested a grok prompt:

”Draw me on New Years partying with fireworks. Include large golden '2025' in huge text with a famous landmark near me in the background”

looks nothing like me, nor am i anywhere within 2000km of those landmarks... and i certainly don't have 2 right hands

when the heatsink is 3mm too tall for a 3u chassis, make it a bit shorter by bending the heatpipes just a little.

can't find the i/o plate... this is going to vex me. is @asrockrack on here?
January 1, 2025 at 2:13 AM
i've never met a rackmount chassis that didn't need power tools to correct basic things..

this build require an angle grinder, a jigsaw, an a shitload of filing to correct airflow problems as well as getting the drive cage to fit and open against the front bezel.

my friends and chosen family watch terry pratchett's #hogfather every december. alas, this year we're all over the world...

... so i'm reimplementing twitch (not at scale) so we can all watch. i needed more server capacity, so i'm upgrading old junk to less old junk.

cut the airflow slits or not?

*exactly* one wee dram left.

and now it's gone.

weird off-shoot took at my studio a bunch of years back. always thought this would be an album cover or something...

drunk and shitposting with #cheepbeer & #goodscotch, if you are a relic in #programing, you just might be a techno-philologist!... by right of passage

how many dead languages did it take to make *you*?

how many of you haven't touched asm, ada, logo, basic, fortran, cobol, pascal... actionscript...
November 30, 2024 at 7:05 AM
#c++ #programing
one of the interesting things about being a relic is getting to watch and be involved in the progression of the field.

1997: wtf is a thread
1999: diy multi-threading & sync
2011: c++11
2024: concurrency vs parallelism, elixr, coroutines...
2025: the journey never stops!

not your usual server repair...

damn led wires snapped off and i'm fabricating replacements in-place.
November 7, 2024 at 5:48 PM
aliexpress has a lot of weird stuff. sometimes i'm afraid to click on the pic to even see what it is...

#copilot #microsoft #ai #homelab

i certainly hope this is running off a local dataset! (nope)

still with the server rack naming problem, this time copilot "you'll never believe #9.

#9- “Wintermute”: From Neil Stephenson’s “Snow Crash,” Wintermute is an AI entity that merges with Neuromancer.

so i'm looking for a cool name to use for my server rack so its utility hostnames aren't UPS-SERVERS, PDU-SERVERS or similar.

drawing a blank, i asked copilot.

i wasn't expecting much, but i got far less than i expected...

at least be bloody consistent formatting

i find this department name to be completely and unreasonably funny.

not a comparison one sees very often anymore!

... but then we break down and get caught into an infinite loop of very confidently completely not formatting a list in markdown for reddit. repeatedly, despite handing it the character to use and directing it to add a crlf to each line.
April 4, 2024 at 9:57 AM
and sam continues on to demonstrate they can parse text from english directives and format it into a list...

... then reformat the list into an unordered list...
