I mostly just share escapist pictures of the animals I live with and the birds in my backyard. 26 years vegan. I have opinions. 🇨🇦🇳🇿
Trans rights are human rights.
This is the first chance I’ve had to photograph a Pine Siskin this year – or maybe ever, because we don’t see a lot of them. Before today, the last time one turned up on the feeder cam was February 2023. #birds

Welp, here we go
I have just asked the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call a federal election on April 28.

We need to build the strongest economy in the G7. We need to deal with President Trump’s tariffs. Canadians deserve a choice about who should lead that effort for our country.

We have problems here with House Finches bullying the other feeder birds, but this is the first time I’ve seen one successfully take on a Cardinal. Then she put the run to a Junco for good measure.

My son pointed out that the painting of Mark S looks like Justin Trudeau and now I can’t unsee it. #severance

Can’t shake the feeling that this is capitalism going out not with a whimper but a bang.

My small contribution to some collective joy today is this out-of-range Carolina Wren who chose this morning for his occasional visit to my backyard. Please enjoy his borbiness, his jaunty tail, and his floofy butt.

Only the goldfinches showed themselves to me today.

It rained last night while the ground is frozen (yay Canada) so our backyard is just a sheet on ice with water on top of it.
And based on how quickly old lady dog came back to the door, I’m pretty sure she stood at the top of the deck stairs and decided nope, she didn’t need to poop today actually.

Yes I know I need walks in the fresh air for my mental health but if that air could be about twenty degrees less fresh than this I’d really appreciate it, thanks

This cutie was very vocal in his disapproval (of me? I assume so). Downy Woodpeckers do not suffer fools gladly.

You wouldn’t know it, but these #cats don’t get along.
Grandkitty still takes great pleasure in jumping on Sera to get a big hissy spitty reaction, even though he is almost two and should probably know better. But sometimes when she’s snoozing he’ll carrrefully sidle in next to her. Progress?

In the interest of sharing joy, here is one of my favourite holiday gifts, from my husband: a cardstock banner/bunting featuring some of my very favourite backyard birds. It delights me.
I found these kind of silly little birdhouses at Michael’s for a couple of bucks just to amp up the kitsch. 💚

There’s a #cat face in here somewhere.

He’s determined to sleep in this lap even as I reach awkwardly across him to work at my desk.

Infinitely depressing that we live in a world where the words “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion” — INCLUSION ffs — are seen as anything other than a bare minimum for human decency.

I used to think that when global warming truly began to bite, deniers would face reality & we could act. Now I think it's more likely it will lead to a kind of fascism that will respond to global warming by, like, executing everyone who says global warming is real.

Although I have become very comfortable on Threads, it’s lovely to see some old faces from Twitter whose paths diverged from mine when it was first time to jump that ship.

Might as well start in this place as I mean to go on: with too many pictures of the birds in my backyard.
