Haiku etc.. Also, Jewish Studies, Christianity, Buddhism, art and cool science stuff. Some politics . . .
She/her.
I haven't posted yet about about a good new thing in my life: Here's Lavender, my first tricycle since I was a little girl...my 65th birthday present to myself.
I've been practicing riding around back streets for a month, and I just got a helmet so I can commute the 2 miles to work.

Dick White of @dailyhaikai.bsky.social and @forgottenpoets.bsky.social inspired and co-wrote a little renga with me me over the weekend.

I learned from him, and had so much fun!
The first haikai is by Taimu (d. 1774?), tr. Dick Whyte himself.

And here is the cloud, to make it a #haiga, or, technically a #shahai , haiku + photo.

Thinking about the disturbing fact related by @hanvanderhart.bsky.social, that instructors at her university are encouraging students to turn to AI first, here are
two slides from my PPT on AI, with the words in alt text.

@leighgoodwin.bsky.social I hope you feel less sad too, soon.

Inspired by @rhunedhel.bsky.social alliterative verse, a few days ago I returned to the first Old English poem I heard, "Caedmon's Hymn" read for us by my high school English teacher. I can still recite most of it in Anglo Saxon. Words in picture and alt text.

And I neglected the kale!
I'd welcome your versions and/or responses to the photo, haiku or otherwise . . .

By for now, Bluesky.
If you have clouds, may they be beautiful.

I cannot say better than those who have written before.
I have struggled with chronic illness myself, so I can empathize a bit. . . But the severity of your problems and your determination to keep creating and be grateful for everything you can ... no words.

Before I sign off for today, I just want to remind everyone that if you tell me when your birthday will be, I will write you a birthday haiku.

Looking through old #haiga and #shahai (Japanese for a photo haiga) the other day, & found a few I had forgotten that were pretty good.
Here's one from last summer that I was never quite satisfied with and never posted. but I like it now.

raindrops pearling
on the hosta leaves
this world of green

This is the favorite thing I have made since I arrived.
I took the picture one day, write the haiku the next, and today, with the bandwidth to email the pic to myself, made the haiga.

two butterflies
and bees enough to make
the whole tree hum

It's been more than two weeks of no or little internet, first traveling and then arriving to find the internet at my cabin was down.
It was good for me.
I am going to try to be online less.
I will arrive at Bluesky most days, though, to connect with friends, and read & post something beautiful.

I am in Vermont again this summer, in the little cottage my mom left me, and as is almost traditional, my internet is nonfunctioning for at least another week.
I will log on occasionally when in town.

Here are my neighbor's excellent chickens.

This past month I participated in the Haiku Foundation Kukai, both submitting a poem (now forgotten) and picking my top five favorites yesterday.
As promised, I am going to post all the one's I liked in a thread tonight.

This Easter & Passover on Bluesky
Many Jews asked, "how to celebrate liberation in a world lacking it?"
My fellow Christians mostly asked, "how do we rejoice?"
More honest to ask - "how do we celebrate resurrection with so much crucifixion going on?"

Still in Egypt; still the crown of thorns
