There's a satisfying feeling when you can finish a last minute Halloween sew without having to wind the bobbin!

How about inuit snow goggles, hand carved, circa 1920s from the mouth of the copper mine river.

This maple tempeh sausage took three separate ferments to make, but it's a keeper.

4/5 loved it, and 1/5 said its OK.

Oh - but I need the map data (so I can compare Calgary v Edmonton school illness rates and control for the difference in vaccination status as best I can). So this data table for every zone:

So, it's January (admittedly a mild one so far). Before this year we have not ever had a 0$/MWh pool price in January... we now have 35 - with more likely on the way. That's nearing 10% of the 0$ hours we had last year... and it's only January 14th!
January 14, 2025 at 4:44 PM
OK, these are probably not the final counts for these ridings... but I'm sure this didn't change much.
January 11, 2025 at 11:02 PM
We had the first 2 hours of the year where the Alberta Pool Price was 0$/MWh today!

This is, I believe, a first for 0$ hours in January.

That's essentially what I did, I scaled up wind and solar - massively overbuilding it to see how much demand we could meet (first without, than with storage, and ignoring transmission constraints). Storage absolutely lowers the costs to meet more than 80% of demand with W + S.
December 20, 2024 at 12:32 AM
Apologies, I missed this. Unfortunately, seasonal storage issues are a big deal in Alberta. Storage lowers costs and cuts gas usage, but retiring gas generation is really tough. Even when wind and solar and storage can meet 99% of our demand... we still need almost all of our NG generation.

@jessedjenkins.com looks like you have a fake account impersonating yours. I'll report and block, best others do the same.

So, 48 zone minutes for a presentation is totally normal, right?

5000 MW is really conservative, here's some net load data for all the 0$/MWh from 2018 - Nov 30 of this year... all 419 of them!
December 5, 2024 at 9:54 PM
@shastingssimon.bsky.social I updated the figures in our Policy Trend with Nov. 2024 Long Term Assessment information (current/in construction/approved/announced numbers).

We have enough wind and solar in construction to meet ~ 32% of demand!

Our 8th annual #TreeByBike, #CarryShitOlympics,

-14C (-21 with windchill), ~10km round-trip. The eldest on her own bike did great (but was slightly chilled), I had the two boys on the ecargo, and DH on the regular cargo with the tree!

We were quite a sight!
