We just had the Testicle Festival in Santa Cruz County this past weekend. That's Rocky Mountain oysters, though, not goat balls. (It's a fundraiser for the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau's Young Farmers and Ranchers program.)

A four-story red-brick building with a decorative frieze between the first and second floors, a peaked roof with many windows, and one visible chimney. Designed by Montgomery C. Meigs, the Quartermaster General of the US Army, it allegedly contains fifteen million bricks. Meigs wanted to get away from the "classical" style popular for public buildings in the capital, and instead based his design on palazzos from the Italian Renaissance. The building was designed for maximum natural air circulation in those days before air conditioning, with a central air shaft and the offices on the exterior of the building surrounding the air shaft.
