A dramatic example of the thesis that executive counter-knowledge, magical thinking, and the self-disruption of the ability of decision-makers to know real things is counterproductive to the activity of making technology that actually works.
Do people know about this lore?

Tesla has always been able to make a Model Y or Model S or whatever "self-driving" if they actually have a system that is capable and validated. By announcing a Cybercab with no steering wheel, they chose to run their strategy through the only federal regulatory barrier around. That was a choice!

The fact that space advocates continue to fall for pretty renders and obvious nonsense like 'making life multiplanetary' is an indictment against space advocacy and education.

You've got to stop falling for this.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but Mars colonization is not remotely possible within our lifetimes. Anyone suggesting it is a conman or delusional. In all the pretty renders, soaring speeches, and swelling music you'll never find a real reason to do it.

@niedermeyer.online musk sharing the ‘news’ that Teslas use ‘FSD’ to leave the factory is wild. Coast to Coast in 2017? nah 2025 they drive in a geo fenced controlled environment. why would a buyer even care? FSD uptake isnt great. i am always perplexed by the absurdity

This is performative nonsense of “hardcore” tech nincompoops. They could put people in nearby hotels or Airbnbs for a lot less. It’s all cosplaying intense workaholism for the cheap seats and all for PR. Sleeping bags at work is simply dumb www.politico.com/news/2025/03...
