The dullard who wrote that you could terraform Mars for $10 billion in 10 years (3 years ago, by the way) is not a credible source on spaceflight. It is an indictment against any space enthusiast who listens to him.

Had I actually made the "SLS vs. Starship" remake this year, I was going to estimate that Starship was a $25 billion program, part of which comes from how poorly the program has progressed.
Based on today's 'please don't hurt me' posts from SpaceX, it appears I have once again been optimistic.

Something I've noticed is that while Elon Musk (et al) love talking about colonizing Mars, I have yet to see him actually talk about it. No discussions on any aspect of the planet, favorite locations, features, nothing.
No actual interest in the place beyond fantasizing about escaping their lives.

Didn't see (or really care about) Flight 11. It's fine. The issue I emphasize is that, at some point, Starship is going to have to actually work. Tiles not falling off, all engines restarting, an airframe that isn't punctured and deformed with heat.

Eh success. Engine out on ascent. Deployment system needs work. Aft section explosion. Vehicle is still falling apart on reentry. We're at Flight 10, not 2. This program is an unmitigated mess. Hard to be enthusiastic about it. Still no confidence on HLS.

I'd really like for space advocacy and enthusiasm to stop falling for obvious nonsense like near-term Mars colonization.
