people always want tidy historical narratives. and it always makes me nervous because humans are some messy bitches. so if you’re trying to tidy up the past, i need to know what you plan on doing with that tidy, *useable* history.

And to be very honest about the history of intentional communities, xenophobia and racism are not new factors informing some groups’ desires to seek isolation.

Similar experience here. My American kids are now teenagers, and I’m encouraging them to go north for college.

I was an international grad student (from Canada) ~20 years ago. If there been a 4-year limit to F-1 visas and no OPT, I would have gone to a Canadian university - a decision many potential scholars and professionals will be making in the near future.

It would be a museum devoted to Canada’s Small Town Big Things, constructed as a huge relief map built into a mini golf course with scale replicas of all of the Big Things.
