Am late, but Baten Kaitos, was my first 'traditional' (albeit nontraditional) JRPG since I was a Nintendo family growing up. The story captured me and I was so emotionally invested all the way through. Though coming back as an adult to properly engage with the battle system, it still is amazing.

Megaman X holds a place so dear to my heart.

The controls are incredibly tight, the music is incredible and the ludic fantasy of becoming as strong and as cool as Zero is so compelling.

I'm right there with you, and it comes with the context of being the best looking thing out on 3d-capable consoles for several years. It still looks gorgeous, to the point that the remake trilogy is a sidegrade in most aspects and a downgrade in the sense that they fixed the cool glitches

Last one from me: Billy vs SNAKEMAN. A browser game themed around anime parody and surprisingly crunchy dice roll systems, this game informed my aesthetic preferences very much for the worse and I love it dearly. Surprising amount of depth, on par with Kingdom of Loathing and its contemporaries!!

Such a good pick! My partner and I have a call-and-response of 'Hello!' 'Hello!' 'Follow me!' 'Okay' to this day because of this game, it really sticks in the mind

Spyro Year of the Dragon is another strong pick! Up until the end of high school, my dad and I would play and complete Spyro 3 once a year. I still play it every now and then, because it feels inviting and friendly in ways few games capture. Genuine delight, dream-like in the best way.

For my own games, Wild Arms 3 has meant a lot to me since I first played it. Virginia Maxwell is a character I aspire to, her idealism in the face of violence and violence in the face of oppression meant a lot to me living in poverty under oppressive systems of my own. Also it's cowboys JRPG w/ lady
