They signed with Capitol as a last ditch effort at making a living playing and as a path to their long-standing dream of joining the Grand Ole Opry. While it was temporarily derailed by Charlie's military service in Korea, thank God they hit it big. Charlie's autobiography is an must-read book imo.

Found this one by idly sifting through random stranger's Bandcamp profiles and was struck by the lovely album art. You should always judge an album by its cover.

Two exceptions being Falling from Cloud Nine and 20201121 Live At Ociai Soup which are quite a bit harsher. They lack a sonic anchor and the electronic squeals cut around in irregular patterns - less certainty, more demanding of attention.

Middle of the road japanese noise. Does what it needs to.

This was an RSD release that I came across by chance in posh record shop that specialised in classical/jazz recordings one day. The shop owner glanced at it while I was paying and condescendingly said "Oh. That's a very specialist record, isn't it?" with thinly veiled disdain. Catty!

There's also some contemporary stuff with a somewhat iffy degree of autotune. Particular standouts are the two tracks from Emma Ogosi and beninois musician Gnonnas Pedro's cover of the Merle Travis song Dark as a Dungeon.

This is such a gentle piece of music that the sounds of the audience shuffling in their creaking seats, bottles on stone and gentle coughs are right in the foreground of the recording, often louder than Ambarchi's interventions. Thankfully, no summer colds for those of us cursed with misophonia.

Ambarchi's guitar and piano contributions are subtle, generating low hums, electrical buzzing and gentle feedback that often blends with the decaying notes Tilbury Plays. A quiet and medidative performance with a certain warmth that easily envelops the attentive listener like a veil.

No pretension, no bullshit. Just music that you can feel in your bones. Fantastic on the occasions i've seen them live too.

Magical album with the momentum of a train rattling through the backwoods of Alabama, I really like the songs written & fronted by banjo/washboard player Matt Bakula here.

Another version of this was released one year prior on Asahito Nanjo's La Musica Records label as Holy Trip. This version lacks Mineko Itakura's presence and generally has sounds far more compressed. Not sure what the story is there - they sound really similar so was she overdubbed in?

Real spacey vibe on the first track with the shimmering organ chords running on top of everything. Second track is more of a feedback drenched electric raga. A slow and mellow trip.
