#albumshuffle Day 375: The Louvin Brothers - Nearer my God To Thee [Capitol, 1957]

Their first gospel focused bluegrass album for Capitol and a fine one at that. For my money, their blood harmonies are the finest in history. My weird fixation with are you washed in the blood notwithstanding.

#albumshuffle Day 374: Bill Orcutt - A History of Every One [Editions Mego, 2013]

Orcutt's solo acoustic guitar work in all its angular and dissonant glory. Attacking a variety of standards - including Disney dross - and twisting them into barely recognisable, halting forms. Real 21st century blues

#albumshuffle Day 373: Tonchi Pickles - gadgetronico! [pokopen recordings, 2011]

One man pop project from Fukuoka. All synths and samples to make some fun dub, techno and otherwise playful boingy music. A lot of stylistic variety if you enjoy a VGM-style polka or a bit of tabla and Arabic flavour.

#albumshuffle Day 372: T. Mikawa - Cloud Carpet Bombing [Neurec, 2022]

Solo noise album from one of the big dogs. Honestly, most tracks are pleasant listening that faded into the background for me. The stable background drone/roar is sort of like standing in the middle of a stream. An angry stream.

#albumshuffle Day 371: Various - Like Nashville In Naija [Comb & Razor Sound, 2017]

A blessed double LP compilation of country music from Nigeria. Mostly recorded in the late 70s and early 80s, some have a little highlife flavour and more than a little cheesy keyboard/synth action, but it's great.

#albumshuffle Day 370: John Tilbury & Oren Ambarchi - The Just Reproach [Black Truffle, 2013]

A delicate improvised performance at Cafe Oto. Tilbury contibutes soft chords and short note clusters on piano, allowing them to naturally decay. Sensitive, patient play as with his contributions to AMM.

#albumshuffle Day 369: The Pine Hill Haints - Welcome to the Midnight Opry [K, 2011]

The Haints are a perennial favourite. They play what they call Alabama Ghost Music; drawing from folk, country, cajun and rock and roll with a punk edge. Washtub, saw, fiddle, banjo and accordion alongside guitar.

#albumshuffle Day 368: Holy Angels - Metaphysics Meditation [Prescription, 1998]

Heavy psychedelic project from Japan featuring Asahito Nanjo on electric sitar, Non from Ohkami No Jikan on drums, Mineko Itakura from Angel'in Heavy Syrup providing vocals and organ work, and others in that orbit.

#albumshuffle Day 367: Reynols - Polos Mosco [Freedom From, 1999]

Real wild album from prolific Argentinian experimentalists Reynols, whose frontman, drummer and lead vocalist Miguel Tomasin has Down's Syndrome. This is mostly an album of noisy garage rock & jams with frequent experimental detours.

#albumshuffle Day 366: Alexander Hawkins Ensemble - Step Wide, Step Deep [Babel, 2014]

Fun album from a London sextet led by pianist Alexander Hawkins. Deftly straddles the boundary of standard contemporary jazz idioms, blues etc and the freely improvised. Nice melodies and chaotic free sections.

#albumshuffle Day 365: Yximalloo - 15 Songs [1982, Sakura Wrechords]

Early cassette from uncategorisable Japanese musician Yximalloo whose lo-fi experimental music encompasses industrial, synth pop, rock and more. Despite the title, there are 24 short songs, most of which feature Sympathy Nervous.

#albumshuffle Day 364: Reverend Charlie Jackson - God's Got It (The Legendary Booker And Jackson Singles) [CaseQuarter, 2003]

Raw, foot stompin' 70s gospel with a strong blues influence. Recordings from the Mississippi born Rev. Jackson with his fiery vocals and over-modulated electric guitar.

Have you ever heard the Toru & Kojima cover of Wonderful from the lovely Smiley / Pot Sounds album? A charming and mysterious Japanese CD that's half Beach Boys covers & half original compositions. Posted as part of WFMU's 365 Days Project way back when.

Have a listen: www.wfmu.org/365/2007/361...

#albumshuffle Day 363: The Beach Boys - Smiley Smile [Brother Records, 1967]

I love the post-burnout Smiley Smile & Wild Honey more than anything. Yeah, sure, Good Vibrations and the cut-back Heroes & Villains as presented are dazzling & fabulous, but not a patch on With Me Tonight or Wind Chimes.

#albumshuffle Day 362: Keith Rowe & Evan Parker - Dark Rags [Potlatch, 2000]

Two gorgeous improvised performances from Keith Rowe on prepared guitar/electronics/radio and Evan Parker on tenor sax. Their extended techniques position them an ocean apart from standard improvised figures & jazz idioms.

#albumshuffle Day 361: The DeZurik Sisters - Yodel And Sing Their Greatest Hits [Mississippi Records, 2014]

The great yodelling sisters from Minnesota. Country duets accompanied by guitar with the most incredible perfectly synchronised rapid-fire yodels, trills and ululation you'll ever hear.

#albumshuffle Day 360: Gwenifer Raymond - Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain [Tompkins Square, 2020]

Impressive american primitive album with a remarkable virtuosity on display. There's a dark, aggressive edge to proceedings that manifests in moments of dissonance. A rich, deep sound.

#albumshuffle Day 359: Various - Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures Volume 1 [Kent Soul, 1997]

Dave Godin is a man who has done more for the dissemination of soul music in the UK than anybody else. The Deep Soul Treasures series of comps are sublime and rightfully one of his proudest achivements.

#albumshuffle Day 358: Nerve Net Noise - This Island Earth [Zero Gravity, 1997]

Noisy fun with primitive analog synths. Buzzing electronic drones that rise and fall in pitch layered on top of each other, some rapidly pulsing or hissing with plenty of static. Slow moving patterns and quite abstract.

Been looking at some of A. R. Penck's sculptures & paintings online there's some really cool stuff. I can't stop giggling at this self portrait though:

#albumshuffle Day 357: Jeanne Lee - Don't Freeze Yourself To Death Over There In Those Mountains [No Label, 1984]

Meeting of vocalist Jeanne Lee and neo-expressionist artist A. R. Penck's free jazz group TTT. Her soulful vocal mprovisations are grounded by a smooth bass line and soft drumming.

#albumshuffle Day 356: Exuma - Exuma II [Mercury, 1970]

A unique blend of Bahamian folk infused with African rhythm, junkanoo with a psychedelic ritual edge. Bells, drums, group chants and guitar. Exuma's singing has the sort of raw power that stands alongside the greatest gospel singers.

#albumshuffle Day 355: Towering Inferno - Kaddish [TI Records, 1993]

Sprawling concept album/performance piece that's a mediation on the shoah and jewish cultural heritage in europe. Constructed in four parts, it's a dizzyingly eclectic piece of work encompassing many genres.

#albumshuffle Day 354: Linda Sharrock / (In) The Abyssity Of The Grounds - Gods [Golden Lab, 2016]

There are two schools of thought regarding Linda Sharrock - those who think her wailing vocal improvisations on Sonny Sharrock's Black Woman and Monkey-Pockie-Boo are beautiful those who are fools.
