I know - but that is what annoys me most.... it works!
Guinness to me is better because at least the association is with either black (colour) or waiting (the pull) - the black horse is just infuriatingly beautiful animal that people like to watch (arguably tied to logo that no one remembers)

But as a strategist I'm always annoyed by high falutin ads like the dark horse running along the beach where I genuinely have no clue what the message is supposed to be.

Equally get annoyed by ads that are all about the idea and forget that it's 90% idea & 90% execution.

I totally missed the not really speaking bit earlier on. I just feel that this is the part that should have been focussed on rather than the dad on the dancefloor bit -which would have brought it far more in line with your sentimentality that they should aim for (my non creative / strat) opinion ofc

And what I was trying to say is that in every ad so far the product they featured was actually for sale.

The more central the product (think stuffed penguin, trampoline) the more important it is that you sell it

Betting it was CSO for current ad agency who said the ad doesn't have to link back.

I understand - genuinely: we need more people like you in client side.

Ads work more on a subconscious level than a conscious one. However to tie things neatly up in the brain you need to tie it to a rational 'why them'.

Not being able to buy the product therefore is really the wrong decision
