LOOK AT THIS: A French mural now shows Lady Liberty burying her face in disgust—unveiled the day before America’s fireworks start.

When the country that literally gave us the Statue of Liberty starts airing us out publicly, you know the rot’s too deep.

We are the embarrassment.

“This Fourth of July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn.”

Take a moment to read an abridged version of one of the greatest speeches in history. “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July” by Frederick Douglass on July 5, 1852 in @theemancipator.org.

Frederick Douglass' anti-slavery speech remains relevant

One might have thought that last November, when Missourians voted to enshrine “reproductive freedom" in the state constitution, that would have been the end of the conversation.

Alas, the Missouri Supreme Court doesn’t seem to be inclined to listen. This week, the court halted abortions.

We will not win the battle for democracy if those in the pro-democracy movement prize caution over taking risks. We cannot permit ourselves to be deterred by the defeats and public criticism that are inevitable along the long path of restoring democracy. Now is the time for fearless leadership.
The Survival of Democracy Depends on Our Willingness to Fight
Justice Riggs is right. We should not have to fight for democracy. But the reality is that we must.

We do not have 6 months. Being complicit in the dismantling of our government will be willfully capitulating to what Trump, Maga and Republicans want. I did not recite The Pledge of Allegiance to white Supremacy.
Murphy: "If we continue to observe norms, if we continue to engage in business as usual, this democracy could be gone. I don't think we have a year to save American democracy. I think the way the president is acting ... puts out democracy at immediate risk."
