Second batch of bagels in the last month. Used honey as the activator for the yeast, looking forward to seeing if that altered the taste (it’s only a tablespoon, so probably not much)

Also on kobo.com and any other ebook retailer at the same price. Fun series, and you don’t need Amazon to enjoy it.

Happy Halloween! ‘Snuff said.

I needed this. Just beautiful, and not one shot from war torn coffee shops hoarding kale in Portland.
In celebration of World Octopus Day, we wanted to revisit one of our favorite cephalopod sightings, the glass octopus — Vitreledonella richardi filmed during a month-long #PhoenixIslandsCoral expedition in 2021.

Despite her best efforts, this actually does not help the interviewing process.

Shout out to my dentist who made my front tooth look whole again after Sunday’s fateful trip face first to the sidewalk.

Today did not go as planned. After finally finding parking, while walking to the Bread Fest with my wife, I tripped and landed hard. Hurt back, sprained wrist, abrasions, bruises, and part of my front tooth. ER staff were great, but oof. I can barely move. AND I WAS DENIED BREAD FEST.

Wish me luck friends. Tomorrow my wife and I will be driving further into war torn Portland to stand in line for bread. Hoping they at least ration it out.

I’ve been staying up pretty late these days, and tonight I thought I’d surprise my wife with banana bread when she got up in the morning. But then I thought I was clever. I’ve made pancake in the rice maker, why not this? The internet even said it worked. It lied.

Looking for a new job means turning off the "ignore unknown callers" filter in case that missed call is the one with my next opportunity.

So far, the two calls that weren't flat out spam were the next best thing, vendors looking to see if I'd be interesting adding their product to my org.

This feels like the DevOps narrative. Feeling so exposed.

Ok, I think my calzone making skills are finally coming along, so I got that for a backup career pivot.

Why is ziprecruiter so bad at what it does??? What in my 25+ years of employment suggests I am a good financial advisor? or dentist?

Happy mail day - illustrated Book of the Ancestor by @marklawrenceauthor.bsky.social came in today! Helps to live so close to where @grimoakpress.bsky.social sends packages from 😉 Now to start skimming the savings account for the inevitable Book of the Ice release...

Signs I may need to get a new laptop at some point - besides the near consistent temperature of 130F unless it's actually doing work (then it's higher), the keys randomly double type. Which is awkward - I feel like I'm spending more time correcting double type typos than actually typing the words.

Well, it's been a month since I was laid off. Initially spent an unhealthy amount of time perfecting my neovim setup (including crash courses in a few things, like LSP's). Started improving my python knowledge from dirty hack of the moment to...dirty hack of the hour.

Ah, when it's cheaper to buy a new garage door opener than it is to get the parts replaced that would make it work again (or at least, the difference in cost makes the new warranty worth it)

Just over two weeks since being laid off, just under two weeks before the last kid heads off to college. I feel like I’m caught spinning between two emotional gravity wells, unable to accept either completely as the other distracts me.

I'm glad no one's asked how I'm spending this first week of unemployment. So far it's been catching up with old friends and coworkers on linkedin, sometimes talking about job options, often not; starting what I'm sure will be a long job hunt; trying to tweak my neovim setup to be perfection itself.

Someone just saw I've dabbled in patches and plugins for koreader and asked for opinions on ereaders and I wrote a short 646 word reply. I knew I was passionate on the subject, just didn't realize how much...

For those that don't follow me on LinkedIn (if you feel that's an injustice, let me know, I can get you the link), this week I was part of a layoff. Not stressing (yet), but even though the ink is still fresh I've started the application phase, looking for a job again after 11+ years.

Well, that was unexpected, but now I have time for more social media. Also more time to work on :waves hands: stuffs.
