I am an 8th generation poor Appalachian raised by doomsday preppers. I do a lot of mutual aid work, and I have also ran a zero waste, anti-establishment handmade business for 15 years.

Would y’all like to see more content about beginning to build a more anti-consumerist, anti-capitalist life?

Working on pages for a zine I'm putting together. The art isn't as interesting on this one, but the information is important. You are not alone.

Principles of mutual aid: We are all connected. Everyone deserves love, care, and access to the means of survival. I'm working on a zine on this topic!

The community aid hub I work with at 505 Main Street Canton desperately needs more storage so we can increase the amount of people we serve by 500-1500 every month.

Elon sent out another email tonight to federal employees, urging us to resign by February 6. The memo was similar to the one received on Tuesday. As with the previous message, this latest communication fails to address concerns about pensions.

You are not alone. The system is the problem, not the people being targeted by it. I'm working on a zine about mutual aid and about how YOU can take matters into your own hands and help each other survive right now.

Stop believing in authority and start believing in each other. Charity means institutions decides who deserves help. In mutual aid, everyone helps each other, with no conditions, and the help goes both ways.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and want change? It is a radical act to bypass the system to help your neighbor. This is referred to as mutual aid, and it's all about solidarity rather than charity. That means directly supporting one another rather than institutions deciding who deserves help.

Find your mutual aid hubs. Donate to keep them going, volunteer regularly, build your community.

Our hub, Haywood Pantries, runs 9 outdoor free food hubs, provides hot meals and clothing, & provides life saving aid to unhoused & low income WNC residents. Donate via BBanks6884 on all the $ apps.
Not to be alarmist, but please be prepared for many gov services to vanish or be horribly downgraded in the months to come. While continuing to push national and local electeds to hold the line, think about non-gov groups that are supporting folks in your community and consider how to support them.

My daughter is absolutely obsessed with @bughunterbug.bsky.social. The other day in the car, LITERALLY as she was excitedly telling her best friend about the signed poster she had while they belted out 2 Bed, 2 Bath & a Ghost… My oldest called to tell me our dog ate her concert poster. 1/2

My youngest put on a private concert for her dolls and she made the monster I made her the DJ. 🤣

We put some old dog food out for the crows. There’s about a hundred around our house, in the trees across the road and on our neighbors roof. 🐦‍⬛🖤

Ventured out on the semi icy roads to reload the snack table and clothing racks at our mutual aid depot for Haywood County. 🫶🏻

I decided to walk Milton to see how slick the road was.

I slid past our mailbox as soon as I stepped on it.

Milly loved the snow. He chased every bunny track he could find. I slid & fell a half dozen times, & James threw a snowball straight into my pocket. Back to enjoying the snow from afar.

I deleted Facebook, Messenger and Instagram off my phone. The biggest form of protesting is divesting.

My daycare kid had to draw a picture of what she did over winter break. She drew me and her loading my car with hot meals to deliver to folks impacted by #hurricanehelene.

She drew her face like 😐 because *checks notes* “it was boring.”

While watching The Hobbit, my youngest said “are they going to offer that as an appeasement?” at the part when the trolls took the horses and Bilbo is carrying the two bowls of soup.

Like, WHAT?! Did my 8 YEAR OLD just use the word appeasement correctly in a sentence??

I stocked 3 pantries on my way home from the depot last night, and I’ll hit 2 more on my way in today. 🫶🏻

All pantries on this list are functional and stocked regularly EXCEPT Hendrix st, it has been removed & we’re unsure why. Take what you need, or leave your cupboards extras.

My eight year old loved this gift of handwritten lyrics of her favorite song (Take it Back) now, but I think she’ll appreciate it even more when she’s older, because the song hits different when you have a deeper understanding of it. Thank you, @bughunterbug.bsky.social!
