It's a loosely woven canvas that has big spaces like needlework canvas-even double threads so you have half stitch choices-and once you embroider over it, you pull out the canvas threads and leave the embroidery on the garment.

Before that grid you're using, which I suppose is water soluble? do you know there was "Penelope canvas"? I doubt if my Byelorussian-Jewish grandmother called it that when she used it to embroider shirts-and maybe your grandmothers in Smock used it.

I'm so glad! Lunasa and I think Altan are coming here this spring, and we have tickets for Altan. We saw Tannhill Weavers last fall. And then, there are the local groups.
