In that scenario the west of UK will see milder interludes and wet weather whilst east will like be average more just below average temps and grey.

Yep. Some evidence suggests the high slips to far south into mainland Europe and effectively blocks how far east the cold air moves. Both ECMWF and GFS show this

The Ensemble mean 850 at -4° doesn’t fill me with too much confidence as 2m temps like to be 4-6°

Is that the GFS AI

Should I delete the Beta Testing Met Office app or will there be further improvements that require testing and feedback given?

The way the models have performed recently they’d still be wondering 3 days out
January 13, 2026 at 5:35 PM
So it is feasible then that an element of the models are picking up on something when they show a less mobile westerly influenced pattern for late Jan and a possible arrival of some cooler air from the east
January 13, 2026 at 2:53 PM
Wow wow wow Gavin. Interesting indeed sir. A possible Galactically exciting mid winter. 🥶 A good way off yet but it has my ears pricked intensely

Christ you’re brave. I won’t set foot in USA until that loon is well and truly gone and the American people have come to their senses after have a choice of two intelligent candidates that stand for peace and prosperity rather than divide and conquer at all costs.

I fear there will be very little chance of further colder incursions now that North America will be getting cooler again in the next few weeks. I can only see an amplified Jet returning with miserable westerly Lows and rain
January 9, 2026 at 9:26 PM
🤣🤣🤣. Winter certainly looks to be done with these shores. Roll on spring in a few weeks
January 9, 2026 at 9:20 PM
Can kiss goodbye to winter for the next few weeks for sure, if not longer
January 9, 2026 at 6:13 PM
Which in turn will pep up the jet stream across the Atlantic sending numerous low systems to our shores but keeping temps above average.

There was no real impact in the south east at all though. Wind wasn’t particularly strong. The SW bore the brunt of this and then felt mostly across the Northern French coast

Enjoy it while it lasts. Looks very much like the end of cold spell is complete by Sunday.
January 8, 2026 at 7:57 PM
Lovely jubbly
January 8, 2026 at 7:56 PM
Will be interesting to see if any cold air gets pulled in behind as it exits the SE
January 8, 2026 at 5:33 PM
And yet the Met Office shows dry symbols but their own radar shows rain hurtling in. So misleading
January 7, 2026 at 10:56 PM
Seems that the snow has watered down somewhat as models firm up on location and track of the Low.
January 7, 2026 at 12:13 PM
Yes I this happen in Ashford also. Very lumpy ice on car this morning suggesting a brief wintry mix before clear skies froze it
