In #qualitativeresearch, many try to quantify findings or imagine them as a single event—a moment of epiphany, a clear-cut boundary between question and answer. In reality, a conceptual leap is not a sudden moment. It’s an accumulative, iterative, flexible process. Check out this brilliant article

How have you navigated the ups and downs to become a #qualitative researcher?
For me, a Global South scholar, it’s meant seizing every opportunity to learn from mentors, connect with participants, read methodological literature, stay active in publishing, and write authentically.

Very happy to share that my paper on the use of ChatGPT in thematic analysis has been accepted for publication in Quality and Quantity. In this paper I propose a Guided AI Thematic Analysis (GAITA) that adapts Template Analysis for working with GenAI. #qualitative #dataanalysis #generativeAI

This research finds that #storytelling helps individuals obtain a stronger sense of meaning in life. Introverts can use narratives as a substitute for extraversion. #qualitative researchers have long developed storytelling as a research method.

Important research indeed. Thanks for sharing, Johanna. The third point shows that there is much more than just a positionality statement needed when doing #qualitative research. We need a comprehensive strategy to build rapport and navigate tensions arising during interacting with participants.

Creswell’s Qualitative Inquiry and #ResearchDesign is among the most popular textbooks in research methodologies. One reason why it is so popular is that the author offers a classification of #qualitative research approaches, which include five distinct designs. Pros and cons of this typology?

Previous machine learning-powered tools 'remain somewhat user-unfriendly due to the necessity for users to have expertise in computer science and algorithms'. Meanwhile, GenAI are "accessible to many users, including those without a background in computer sciences or sufficient English proficiency"

The table shows the four AI-powered tools we tested. GPT-4 was the most advanced model. Casper AI can scan web-pages that are full text available online; ChatPDF can scan pdf files. Other tools such as Elicit, Scispace, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini offer the same functionality. #genAI #tool #AI

In this paper, we employed various AI-powered tools in Phase 2 and Phase 4. ChatGPT was able to assist us in formulating Boolean queries, and then adapting the queries to different databases (Scopus, Proquest). Our role was still crucial in deciding which keywords to include.

Theorizing qualitative data analysis is often tough. Maxwell & Chmiel (2014) offer a classification: similarity -seeking to condense data and establish more abstract-level analyses, and contiguity - seeking to maintain relations with the context in which participants make meanings.

Braun & Clarke's (2006) paper on thematic analysis is one of the most widely cited papers in history (over 222k atm). However, many don't know that they have evolved their approach into reflexive thematic analysis (RTA). Below is the renamed six phases of RTA from their 2012's book chapter.
