Ok, I know Chris has never updated his pfp on here, but don't let that deter you from reading this interview with Emmylou Harris and Buddy Miller on the reissue of their Spyboy live album, which should really be in any music fan's library.
Miller: Getting to play with that voice every night, that was a big deal for me. And it was my first real gig… First real gig? You were already accomplished by that time, at least in inner circles… Miller: By “real,” I guess, I mean bus gig — we actually were on a bus instead of a van! You know you reached new heights as a professional musician when you actually get on that bus. First gig with the toilet on the road. And I couldn’t have had a better gig. It’s still my best. The best gig I’ve had. Harris: He was always on time to get on a bus. We never had to wait for him.

This just got reposted into my timeline, and I'm not familiar with the show or any of that lore, but that book cover image gave me flashbacks.

You know, if we’d all just be “people” instead of being our religions/races, the world would be a lot more pleasant place. I really don’t care about any of that unless YOU use it to differentiate us. Be a Jew, Muslim, whatever. But be a generic, human person first. Please. I will do the same. The Greendale Community College "Human Being" mascot - meant to be race- and gender-neutral, it is a person in a non-descript body stocking with a face drawn badly with a Sharpie and is, despite intentions, still white.

Facebook post from Samuel Delany: *Beowulf,* a work of which we have 3,182 lines, that cries out for translation. Probably the most difficult word is the first (Hwæt). It is an alliterative verse, which means three accented syllables in half lines, sharing two accents apiece. Hwæt wē Gār-Dena in geār-dagum ƿēod-cyninga ƿrym gefrūnon, hū oā æpelingas ellen fremedon Here are two translations of it. I'm just going to talk about the first word. My good friend Maria Dahvana Headley translates this as "Bro! Tell me we still know how to speak of kings! in the old days, everyone knew what men were: brave, bold, glory-bound. Only stories now, but I'll sound the Spear-Danes' song, hoarded for hungry times While Seamus Heaney translates this as So. The Spear-Danes in days gone by and the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness. We have heard of those princes' heroic campaigns. The first word, Hwæt, in my opinion is best translated either in three syllables: Listen Up! Or as a single syllable: Yo! W H Auden wrote a whole poem called 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘯𝘹𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺, in alliterative verse. His extremely popular poem 𝘚𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 1, 1939, is kind of a prelude to 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘯𝘹𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺, a far longer and more complex poem.

The suspects allegedly used high-tech cheating gadgets to steal millions of dollars from games backed by four of the “Five Families” that have long ruled organized crime in the New York area. The high-tech equipment described by Nocella included poker chip trays that secretly read cards with a hidden camera, special contact lenses that can read pre-marked cards, and an X-ray table that can read cards face down on the table.

He said: “If you rush ahead of the drums you sound like an adolescent jacking off too quickly.” He’s got the southern accent because he’s from Texas and his advice was just to imagine that you’ve put your feet up on the mixing board and chewing gum while you’re playing.
