I’m scratchbuilding a model of the hero ship in my blue-collar space opera found family heist novel to decorate my table at a book event next weekend and the paint job is starting to look really nice!

This is a mix of Tamiya Titanium silver + red + blue + clear, shot through my Harder & Steenbeck infinity brush
The lighting/camera doesn't really do the color justice. There's a lot more purple in-person and the multiple layers gives a subtle chromatic shift under changing light.

A good model deserves a good base. The mirrors are from Ikea. I still haven't chosen between the copper-toned mirrors or the gunmetal-toned ones. I'll probably put off that decision until the last minute.

The six pins (atmo flaps & skip vanes) need to be aligned along the ship's long axis, or the vanes will be crooked. So I built an alignment jig to epoxy the pins into the holes drilled in the aft cowling

In-between the casting, I've also been machining out a set of pivot pins that will be the mounting joints for the 3 skip vanes and the 3 atmo flaps. These will go in the holes drilled in the aft cowling
