Saw Zootopia 2: Yep, it's good.

Putting in my votes for the Game Awards now and I'm now being forced to really think about the nominees. Some of these categories are just impossible to vote on. Choosing just *one* best performance or just *one* best art direction feels deeply unfair. They're all unbelievably good this year.

So, Google has finally shown off Gemini 3. It is apparently quite a leap in capability.

LinkedIn, I'm not sure what you're asking me here.

I like this new sense of humor that Game Freak appears to have picked up in Pokémon Legends Z-A. Also the game is really fun and refreshing, it's the most interesting Pokémon title in years.

Welp, one of my computers can't play Battlefield 6 for unclear reasons. Presumably the anticheat is blocking it from running, but I can't for the life of me figure out why. Secure boot is correctly configured. BF6 just silently closes during startup, no logs. Gotta use my alternate PC.

Gotta hand it to them, Meta absolutely nailed it with the neural band. This is *the* correct way to interact with AR glasses, period.

I've used many AR glasses over the years and tried many different modalities. This solves about all the problems. Apple and Google and co need to take note.

The robot vacuum has been broken for weeks and I decided to investigate how to fix it by just aggressively disassembling it. Found the LiDAR motor is burnt out. Put it back together and ordered a LiDAR replacement.

The vacuum suddenly came back to life and started cleaning.

I haven't fixed it yet…

"Yes, you're absolutely right!" - every AI ever these days

Oh my god, *please* stop.

I wish I could roll macOS 26 back to Sequoia. The UI refresh is... not great. Usually I'm very excited for UI refreshes! But this one needs to be put back in the oven and see more usability studies. And more debugging.

I've been seeing more and more websites just silently or explicitly breaking Safari and iCloud Private Relay as the year goes on. Even manages to trigger IP bans sometimes, which is extra wild! I wonder if this is part of the overzealous, ham-fisted responses to try to block web crawlers lately…

Man, the most shocking news is that Samus has a motorcycle now? Metroid Prime 4 certainly is going places.
They didn't show very much. Hard to say whether it'll be a good mechanic or not.

Looks like an hour long Nintendo Direct is coming this Friday! Hype~

Kinda wish I could try out the new AirPods Pro 3 before dropping $250 on them. It would be great if they do in fact fit better in my ears; I'm constantly trying to prevent the existing ones from falling out.

So the npm supply chain attack is going to be the long-overdue wake-up call for those with access to critical infrastructure to be mandated to upgrade their 2FA from TOTP/SMS to passkeys/FIDO2/WebAuthn only, thus greatly enhancing the safety of our collective technologies. Right? RIGHT?!

I started WoW recently. My takeaway as a FFXIV player:

Vibe of FFXIV: *spends two hours deeply contemplating the philosophical implications of what it truly means to change a lightbulb and what it says about us as a society and how important our friends are*

Vibe of WoW: "It's snack time! ^w^"

Good guy Team Cherry: Makes fully native macOS version of their game for day 1 release on Steam.

More devs should be like Team Cherry.

I love 3D printing. It's never ceases to amaze me that I can think "I need a very specific object" and simply press a button that makes said object come into existence in a well-constructed manner.

Today's hotfix for FFXIV is awesome:

FINAL FANTASY XIV Hotfixes (Aug. 13, 2025)

■The following issue has been addressed:
・In Sinus Ardorum, a player could get disconnected from the server if they put an item up for sale on the market and the asking price was set between 44,442 gil and 49,087 gil.

The reason why I'm not concerned about AIs taking over software development, or jobs in general, is because they're still fundamentally bad at it and I'm deeply unconvinced that they can ever be good enough to be useful for anything other than small, personal projects. Need a *product*? Ask a human.

The Battlefield 6 beta is quite fun. I think they have nailed the best execution of the series in a long time. It’s pretty much exactly what I was hoping for.

You know what @bsky.app needs? The ability to selectively turn off reposts from given accounts, like what mastodon lets you do.

Occasionally an account I follow suddenly picks up a nasty repost habit and I have to unfollow them entirely due to the lack of controls I have over my timeline.
