(Updated graphic). More to come. Though I should really be working on less silly things.

A pretty wild cover for the first US printing of Crash by J.G. Ballard. Published by Farrar Straus Giroux in 1973.

Knausgaard is an oddity. He is somehow capable of writing about his life unsparingly in the way most writers transpose and collage various aspects of themselves across multiple characters. Three down, three to go.

Nevermind, I've found it in settings - moderation - muted words and tags. Fantastic!

It's taken some time and patience (plus a few bucks), but I've finally got my hands on a UK hardcover of Hubert Selby Jr.'s Requiem for a Dream, completing my collection.

Here's a taster of my next Substack article, dropping Tuesday.

One of the nice side benefits of this blog is having a little play around with imagery once a fortnight, something I rarely do outside of work.

Here you can see my first and second go at it.

Today's loaf: nothing fancy, just a simple farmhouse for sandwiches and toast.

We watched Alps last night, one of Yorgos Lanthimos's early films. It's about this group that helps people in grief by assuming the role of their departed loved one. Weird, dark, hilarious—just like all his films.

Finished this yesterday. Wonderful, wonderful book. Currently reading Flame Into Being, Anthony Burgess’s book on Lawrence.

Had a fab day at Hay on Wye. Went on a bit of a spree, as you can see here (and this isn’t everything), before finishing with pizza at the Three Tuns. Won’t need to buy any books after this for a while 📖.

The pencil extender I got works well for getting some extra mileage out of them.

Reading this hefty fellow. Earthly Powers by Anthony Burgess. I’m around a hundred pages in and already love it.

Good morning. I’ve just started A Girl is a Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride.

I’ve been fascinated by the idea of the My Struggle book series by Karl Ove Knausgaard. Anytime people champion a work, fiction or otherwise, for its blistering honesty, I’m sold. It’s wonderful so far.

Henderson The Rain King by Saul Bellow. I’m officially obsessed with Mr. Bellow’s work. Love these late 70s paperbacks, too.
